I'm assuming some drakes just never get good coloring on their head/neck? These 5 are over 1 year old. I've also never seen him mount any of the 3 girls there, ever. And he doesn't have a tail feather curl. But the dark breast, greenish beak and larger size tell me it's a male regardless. Is...
These two are throwing me for a loop. Hoovers hatchery farm store. I was hoping they were welsh harlequins, but I don't think so as they are not dark enough.
They have olive legs, dark bills, light eye stripe, and their down is a fairly uniform yellow to beige.
Maybe Golden 300s?
I vent sexed...
I have cleaned and bangaded my rooster's foot. He has always had a limp from a foot injury as a chick, which is why this terrible bumble foot infection went unnoticed for so long. I have removed the core/corn and all necrotic tissue and pus. The tip of his toe bone is visible on his shortened...
Hey all. Hoovers hatchery/ rural king buy. I got so many I can't remember what these 2 are. First one posted here has a flat comb, no nub or pea rows. Someone thought possibly a prairie bluebell or other colored layer. Any input?
Second one pics/description are in the comments.
I'll list more pictures of each specific bird in it's own comment along with my best guess based off what I might have purchased from Hoover's 4-5 months ago and have since forgotten.
To start, I believe this is a sapphire gem, but she doesn't have very sharp colors in her neck to chest...
So I have been breeding and back crossing for a variety of deep olive/moss eggers. I created this BEAUTY!
That said, I'm not sure what one of the 'grandparent' genetics are.
Dad is a french wheaten marans, mom is a deep blue feathered moss egger, from a BCM and ?? not sure if she was from a...
Black skin, small single comb. Hasn't laid an egg yet so no clues there. I thought maybe a midnight majesty marans? No feathered feet. But I don't remember ever buying one soooo... lol. Maybe a sex link? I didn't buy one of them either haha.
She is so beautiful!
Hey. So my sweet girl got injured yesterday/today. And it was my fault. :(
I didn't find out until this afternoon, but last night when I went to check on my birds, and when shutting the coop door, she must have gotten caught and her neck was bent terribly and she was stuck until I opened their...
I've got 6. To my extremely inexperienced eyes, based off of 5 minutes on google, I think there are 5 gals and a male?
I'll label the pics with numbers.
I believe they are the Pharoah coloring? Are they jumbo or the smaller kind? I got them from rural king, so hoovers. It just said 'quail' lol.
I've had a great variety of ducks through the years. But I am not sure on these two little gals.
They are both female. 3 weeks apart in age but the growth spurt on the older one is pretty awesome.
The brown older duck is 4 weeks about. It appeared to be a khaki campbell as a duckling, I...
Are they both variations of the same color?
Are they considered gold birchen or blue partridge, or just leakage?
I am keeping #2 to breed with as he has the best feathering and comb.
I got these two silkie chicks (rural king/hoovers). I got them simply because they are different. Are they partridge?
They do have 5 toes. Skin is grey, not black.
Has anyone had some that looked like this to show how they grow up?
I hatched 16 silkie and showgirl chicks from my birds this week. Parents are white showgirls, dark blue, partridge, and roo is black.
Are all of the grey/silver-yellow chicks splashes? Also this chick we singled out here has a funny colored top hat! Do you think the colors will stay different...
I had my first eggs from this years newer chickens.
All on the same day and at 26 weeks. That was a loooong wait.
The larger white is from my polish.
The two smaller ones are from my only two bantams. The picture makes them appear darker than they are though.
So we've got a white laced red...
To start, I've raised hundreds of birds over the years, all different breeds. I know it can take longer for many breeds to lay, but I've never had so many with not a single one laying by this stage. I am a bit at a loss over my current newer batch of pullets this year though! Just so excited...
For the record, I've hatched hundreds of chicks, but weaklings give me trouble with temperatures! I've assisted a fair few at hatch for various reasons but prefer to let them do their thing, naturally. I seem to have more than my share of spraddle legs and slipped tendons to deal with though! I...
Thought it was a cockerel based off of the saddle feather area, but not sure because besides that one picture, I don't see saddle feathers like that in person. New to this breed!
10 weeks old.
New to this breed. Mottled Houdan. Does this look like a pullet or cockerel? About 10 weeks old. Soooo friendly and GRUMPY looking, I love it! We thought it was a boy, but it seems a little too rounded, if they are similar to polish?
This is one of three olive Eggers I hatched.
In the third/last picture, one is obviously a male and has been since 5 weeks, in the center. One is obviously a female, she's on the left. Then this one is stumping me (on the right). The first two pictures are also of this one. I was leaning pullet...
So these were all supposed to be pullets, and I forgot what a couple of them arw because I thought I'd remember all the different kinds and didn't band them. I always forget, I don't know why I thought I would remember. Anyways first 3 photos here are...not sure at all.
Next 2 photos I think...
