Are there any duck breeds that don't need as much water? Specifically interested in the "White Layer" breed: https://hoovershatchery.com/WhiteLayer.html
We have a couple of muscovies, who don't seem like they like to swim much. Mostly just water for drinking and putting their head in. Looking...
We've never hatched baby chicks (bought them from the hatchery). We only have one white silkie rooster, and the rest are hens from Hoovers Hatchery, including ISA Brown, Calico Princess, Sapphire Gem, Silver Laced Wyandotte, French BCM, Welsummer (maybe), Australorp, White Jersey Giant, and...
We got some chicks in September, and some breeds were estimated to start laying now (i.e. ISA Brown). Are they not laying because it's too cold? Anything we can do to support them?
We have a couple of muscovies that we have been keeping separate from our chickens. We want to mix them now. Is there a chance the muscovies would transmit any disease to the chickens?
Are there any serious health concerns if a chicken bites you? A couple of weeks ago, one of our friendly hens bit me behind my knee, and there was a bit of blood.
We are about to get some mandarin ducks and were hoping to find a beginners guide to raising them.
Can they be put with Muscovy ducks? Where should they live?
Is it better to get 2 pairs or is 1 pair enough? Can they stay outside in the winter (lowest 20-30 degrees)? Do they need special food?
I think I found the name before, but I can't seem to find them now...does anyone know the name of that breed? The rooster that has a reddish head and a lot of colors in there too?
And does the hen look as pretty for that breed?
Any hatcheries in North Georgia with less common chicks? (breeds besides what you can find at Tractor Supply). For example, breeds available at Murray McMurray but in Georgia so we can do local pickup without a minimum order.
We have two Muscovy ducklings that we got from a neighbor, and they seem to be sitting almost all of the time. Even when they get up, it's only for a short period. We are confused because we bought the specific duck feed that Tractor Supply recommended (picture attached) that has Niacin in it...
After having a lot of fun with chickens, we bought two ducklings to try to raise!
We're pretty sure the one with the dark feet is a Muscovy because we saw its mother, and the person who hatched it said the other duck is probably a Muscovy too. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Anybody know what breed these black chickens are? They are starting to have some blue and brown feathers, and they have hair feet. We got them from Tractor Supply's Rare/Standard pack (Hoover's Hatchery).
Does anyone have any best guesses to which breeds these four chickens could be?
Here are some breeds Tractor Supply said they could be:
Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Blue Andalusian, Buff Brahma, Cochin, Columbian Wyandotte, French Black Copper Marans, French Cuckoo Marans, French Wheaten Marans...
Hi everyone, we recently got a Rare Standard pack from Tractor Supply (Hoover's Hatchery), which turned out really to be mostly only black chicks. Haven't noticed too many differences yet, but some seem to have darker feet and darker beaks, while others seem to have lighter feet and lighter...
Last weekend, we got 8 baby ISA brown chicks from tractor supply. All of them have grown very well, except for one, who has an issue with her butt. (warning: graphic image attached). Does anyone have advice on how to sooth and help this baby chick?
Part of our Rare/Standard pack from Tractor Supply (Hoover's Hatchery), we received two yellow-ish chicks.
Does anyone have any guesses of what the two breeds might be? One of them is more yellow in color, while the other has more of an orange tint. Both are starting to grow some black color in...
We recently ordered the Rare/Standard pack from Tractor Supply (Hoover's Hatchery), and while almost all of them were black chicks, we had two that had somewhat of a stripe.
Does anyone have any guesses of what the two breeds might be? (two of the pictures are of the same chick, and the other...
When we hold baby chicks that we just got a few days ago, they sometimes fall asleep in our hands. Is this because they are comfortable, or are they playing dead, or something else?
Hi everyone! We recently started raising our first chickens, and this included a 10-chick Rare/Standard pack from Tractor Supply, which came from Hoover's Hatchery. Can anyone help identify this chick? We have more that we will need to identify later, but don't have good pictures of them yet...
