This beautiful polish cockerel was dumped outside of Cupar, Fife (Scotland) and was rescued by the animal charity I work for. He’s now looking for a home and will be for the next week, but afterwards will unfortunately have to be culled. Please reach out to me if you are interested! I really...
Up until the last few days my hen has been acting a little more aloof with her chick as it’s growing more independent, but today she set the mark by leaving the nursery coop and roosting with all the adult chickens, (which the chick cannot get to because it is up a ladder) and left it by itself...

Hi all,
I own chickens for enjoyment and over the years have had a couple roosters (seen in the image below) whom I’ve hatched chicks from. I recently bred the grand-chick of one of my favourite hens who passed away.
The chick is happy and healthy but I’ve noticed this little imperfection on...
I’ve attached a picture of our day old chick that hatched yesterday. I’d vent sex but I’m no professional so I’m just going off of the more ambiguous methods for now.
According to typical wing sexing methods this wee chick is a hen. Any help?
Hi all,
Thought I’d make a wee post to show off the cockerel I picked up recently - I’m sure he’s a bit of a mutt but I know he’s a bantam of some sort (he’s much smaller than all the hens). I was thinking he could be part silkie because of his feather texture but then again he doesn’t have the...
Hi all,
I recently rehomed a bantam cockerel (6 months old) and introduced him to my flock. but unfortunately things aren't going as well as I'd pictured! it seems the hens have no interest in him whatsoever - he'll show them food, sound alarms for big birds, etc etc but the hens just arent...
Hi all,
Today I picked up a rooster from a lady needing to get rid and I have plans to breed him with some of my girls. I have three in mind - a barred hybrid, a light Sussex and a leghorn. The only issue is the rooster is very small and has been pushed around quite a bit from the bigger hens...
I’m central Scotland - Perth/Kinross area
Joe is good temperament, friendly, and good with the girls.
We currently have him to a group of 9 hens but need to free up some space in the coop.
Not looking for a sale, we are happy to give him away for free under the condition he goes to a good...

Hi all,
I have a buff Orpington hen with wry neck. She’s under two years old and slowly it’s gotten worse, so I’ve isolated her from the other hens in a dog crate with water, food and I’ve been feeding her egg and sunflower seeds mixed together with vitamin E supplement.
Right now it is...
Hi all, I have three 4 week old chicks that I’m beginning to ponder the sex of. They are all half lavender ameraucana. First one is crossed with a barred breed of some sort, the second is a buff Orpington mix, and the last is a silkie mix.
I know it may be too early to tell. Help greatly...
Hi all,
I have two recently hatched (just a day old) chicks that I’m wondering can be sexed. There is a lavender ameraucana and another one crossed with a silkie.
From what my knowledge is, I’d assume we have a hen and a roo- but I’m not very sure.
May anyone help? Thanks!
This year I hatched 3 silkies under a broody hen. We got two buff and one black. They’ve grown up without any fights or fusses and their mother has now stopped looking after them and has went back to the big coop- which is all good.
however, upon adding two buff Orpington pullets to their coop...
Hello everybody! My silkie chicks (bring raised by broody hen) have reached 5 weeks today. They hatched on the 8th/9th of June. I know they are still young, but what are your guys ideas on what sex they may be? I am thinking two roosters and one hen.
Hatch day and present day Pictures provided!
Today when I went out to see my four hens I noticed that one of them had black on the inside of her eyelid. There was also a little bit of black on her comb. Is this something to be concerned about? I’m worried it’s avian pox. :(
I am on the morning of day 21 and have not seen any movement or heard any noises from my two silkie eggs. I gave them a quick candle, and didn’t see very much movement either, however both chicks were filling the egg with healthy veins showing.
This is my first time using an incubator (I have...
in June my family and I decided to buy some duck eggs from Waitrose and put them under our broody hen. She had been broody for a very long time so we decided we would try her out sitting on some eggs. A month later, Chandler and Flappers hatched! (Flappers: dark, Chandler: lighter) they are...
