    Chicken Inspectors

Had hay delivered to the homestead today in advance of the arrival of a breeding pair of lambs next week. The chicken inspectors were quick on the scene. Love how curios they are. Can't wait to go smell the hay!

    Dust baths

So our chickens have decide the spot that used to be our burn pile for yard debris is a perfect dust bath. We burned everything in the pile this spring and now the barren ashy spot is enclosed in their chicken yard. Wondering if it's okay to add the ash from our Weber charcoal grill to the spot...

What Breed? Mystery chickens from TSC!

Good Morning! The hubby and kiddos just came back from TSC with these cuties. Any ideas what breed the dark colored ones are? None of the tags on the brooders were correct. They have yellow feet if that helps... Hoping the light colored ones are Calico Princesses.

Leghorn Sexing Questions and is this Chick Deformed?

    Has anyone else heard this?

I was told by a clerk when I was purchasing chicks a few weeks ago you can tell gender of little chicks with a simple trick. When you grab the chick in your palm, you flip your hand so the chick is belly up and if it tucks in it's feet is female, if it sticks it's legs out it's male. Anyone...

    Bedtime routines

Anyone else as fascinated and entertained by your young chicks bedtime routine as I am? After a solid 45 minutes of shuffling from roosts to the food bowl, they are finally settled and quiet. This is our third night of opting for a perch rather than the pile in the corner of the cage. The brahma...

    Hen or Roo Barred Rock

New to site and first time raising chickens. Was supposed to be a pullet, but is bigger than the other two BR's I purchased at same time. I'm especially noticing it's feet and legs are heavier/thicker than the other two. Did I end up with a roo?
