We are trying to encourage using all the nest boxes, but our 4 hens keep sharing the same box. We bought 2 fake eggs, after the toddler broke one, we just put the one in a different box than the favored one.
Now it seems we've turned at least one hen broody.
The left box is favored, so they are...
I observed, in my previous and first hatch, when the first chick hatched, it stumbled, tripped, bumped, climbed, etc ALL OVER the other eggs. I was just reading that you don't want to be turning the eggs anymore once they are ready to hatch so they are in a prime direction to start breaking the...
Just discovered this board in the forums so we're already starting to hatch our first time.
29 guinea eggs
9 mystery chicken eggs
All were given to us by a family friend
Guineas were incubated 4/28
Chickens were added 5/5
Egg turner was removed 5/23
I heard peeping last night and saw one of...
We get this assortment often, just wondering what causes the two in the middle? I think the left middle is from the olive egger and the right middle is from one of two golden cuckoo marans.
Thanks!
He pecked my toe, drawing blood, and now started pecking an egg I was collecting! Golden cuckoo maran at 24 weeks.. I have small kids, he's got to go 😞
I hate it, I feel like I failed him!
Not sure which lady they came from in our flock, though.. we have 2 golden cuckoo marans, 1 lavender orpington, and a meal maker I think is an olive egger - so I think it's possibly from her!
Hi! Would love to know what breed our meal maker from Meyer is. It's 8 weeks old in these pictures and also a baby picture from a few days old.
Thank you!
6 day old GCM has had pasty butt for a few days and I accidentally pulled some feathers out when cleaning today..
Will it be ok? Is there anything else I should do for the poor baby?
So far I've added ACV to water to help with pasty butt
Much thanks chickadees
We just received our new babies from Meyer Hatchery:
1 lavender orpington
4 golden cuckoo marans
And the striped lady is a free meal maker, unsure of breed (suggestions appreciated!)
We are new to owning chickens though we've been helping family with feeding theirs.
We are building the coop...
