I am in need of duck sex education. My 21 week old Muscovy is mating already! Is that normal? I read they aren't mature until 6 or 7 months. There appears to be only one drake that is doing it and he only "mates" one of the females. Is there anything I should know? He isn't vicious, but...
Hello All, We have too many drakes, so we will be eating some of them. The ones that are of age spend a lot of time in the mud eating bugs and worms in the mud. Does that effect the taste of the duck? Do they need to be on a certain diet before the dreaded day?
Good Morning, All!! It is a BEAUTIFUL sunny day today!! Thought I'd show off my second duckie family. They bring me so much joy!! I am trying to get a photo of them in a row on a bamboo pole we have over the ponds, but I keep missing the opportunity. Have a BEAUTIFULLY BLESSED DAY!!
Everything is back to normal. I guess all the fuss about going to bed was because the sister had flown the coop. They all go into their coop no problem now.
One of my 13 week old female Muscovies flew away!! I didn't think she would go far. She had just started to get off the ground. I am so sad. I just wanted to let them "stretch out" their wings a little before clipping them. They are all clipped now. Is there any hope of seeing her again? 😭
Good Morning!!! My Muscovy 13 week females have discovered their wings!! I hate to cut them, but I fear they will fly out of their yard. The drakes would fly, too, but they are too heavy and can't get off the ground, yet. When and how do you cut them correctly?
My muscovies are 12 weeks. I still haven't figured out how many are female and male. They have begun to separate sometimes and"chase" each other. Do I need to separate them?
I am a little heart broken because I have raised from eggs 6 Muscovy ducklings and they won't let me touch them. They wag their tails and chirp when I come in their yard. The follow me around, and love the worms and other garden treats I toss them as I work in the dirt, but they don't like me...
Hello All, We have had chickens for over 20 years, but we were given a pair of Muscovys recently. I was instantly made to research all I can about the breed because a wild animal yanked the mother off her eggs, ate 2, and so mom wouldn't go back to the nest. That was the day they were due to...
