Nike, 17 week old Blue Australorp, is normally one of my most active and curious pullets. For the past two days, she’s acted super sleepy, and doesn’t keep up with her flock of pullets like normal. This morning I found her in the bamboo clucking to herself. Tonight, she put herself to bed early...
(X-posted to texas thread)
Hi everyone! Much to my dismay, I have 3 cockerels I need to rehome. They are free to a good home. I live in Dallas, Texas and I’m willing to deliver up to 30 minutes away. Photos of all 3. I got them as chicks in May, so they’re 9-12 months old.
Liz Lemon is a Lemon...
Last one. Pinky swear. (Until next time. 🤞)
This is Goldie Hen. Shy and sweet, I think she’s the youngest of my crew. 8-9 weeks?
Goldie can often be found trailing behind the others, shyly waiting for treats, and snuggled up under Vera or Chipmunk.
Pullet or cockerel?
Helloooooo! Meet Chipmunk, my second most favorite. The bravest and smartest of my chickens, Chipmunk is the only chicken who’s shown any indication that she knows how to problem solve (moving an entire THREE INCHES to escape the sprinkler spray that so terrorizes her flock) and has daringly...
Hi! It’s me. Just two more, I promise.
This rotund ball of sass is Liz Lemon. She was also procured at the Ellis County Poultry Trade Days, but was always the largest and most aggressive chick. I’ll never forget the time she chased some smaller babies around the brooder, trying to pull their...
Hi again! Meet Vera Wing, mystery chicken. When I unpacked my chicks this past May after a trip to the Ellis County Poultry Trade Day, I had to count several times, trying to understand why my six chicks had turned into seven…I had a stowaway! Vera somehow snuck into my chick box and here we...
Hello, friends! Meet Nike, my beloved Blue Australorp. I got her as a chick in May, at the Ellis County Poultry Trade Days in Waxahachie Texas. I adore her. She is my sweetest, most curious, and loving chicken.
Please tell me she’s not a rooster???
Ever since I brought them home, I noticed that Attila the Hen (Whiting True Blue) and Houdini (Mottled Houdan) are absolute besties. They do nothing without each other. They pretty much ignore the other 5 chicks I have. (They're about 3 weeks apart.) Today, I received feedback that Houdini is...
1. Where did you get the birds?
Ellis County Poultry Trade Day
2. Are they from a feed store, hatchery, or breeder?
Breeder
4. If they came from a breeder, what were they supposed to be, and what other breeds/varieties did the seller have?
Whiting True Blue is what she’s supposed to be...

She’s half-feathered so maybe not a chick, but I think it’s irrelevant…one of the big girls pooped on her back. I saw it yesterday morning and I was hoping she’d dust bathe it off, but it was still there this morning, albeit smaller.
Right now, it’s 101, and she’s out there aggressively dust...
This poor little chick went downhill overnight 😔
Lethargic and bloody diarrhea.
Is there anything I can give her besides electrolyte water? She’s already been on medicated feed since she came home last month.

Breeder. Purportedly lemon lace Orpington but neighbors told me that’s a myth. (Google is confusing.)
3. If you bought them from a...
I filled up my coop at a local poultry trade day, and immediately canceled my order with the hatchery. When I didn't hear back, I emailed again...still no response. Today, the hatchery sent me an email saying my chicks are in the mail. I called and they gave me a refund but I still have five...
This is Liz Lemon, a lemon laced Orpington that I got last weekend at the Ellis County Poultry Trade Day.
Any chance she’s a frizzle or is that wishful thinking???
I have five chicks that came home 4 days ago. Four look about 1 week old and one looks 2-3 weeks old. Unless they’re asleep, they are chirping.
I’ve googled this incessantly:
1. They have unlimited access to medicated chick food.
2. They have a heating plate they pile under to sleep, but...
I see this type of thing on Facebook Marketplace all the time…thoughts on using it for chicks? Will they be okay tenperature-wise with a Hover Heater?
Thank you!
Hi there!
I'm a Texas resident who lives in the city (by an airport!) on half an acre. My 1/2 border collie, Apollo, is a sweet docile boy, but we'll see how he feels about his new feathery sisters. I have 3 girls arriving the last week of April.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first...
