We have Marek's disease. I have 2 year olds that are doing fine. I have 7 that just started laying, and one roo, those are vaccinated. My question, if I let them make chicks, would they have any immunity to Marek's or will they just die? Thanks!
I have two year old hens that give me about an egg a day. I have eight 3-month pullets. I'm getting 3 eggs a day. How is that happening with only two old enough to lay? Is it possible that the young ones could be laying at three months old? They're as big as the two older hens. Thanks!
I just had half of my chicken flock taken out by a fox. I've read that guinea hens can help protect your flock. The problem I'm running into is sellers want huge orders. I have 12 chickens left, I don't need 30 guineas! Also, another obstacle, we have Marek's. My last batch of chicks was...
I have two egg laying hens. I've been wondering why I'm only getting eggs from one of them. I found a couple of her eggs in a back corner where they're hard to reach. They may different colors so I know whose laying where. How can I get her back into one of their five nesting boxes? She was...
I have a year old hen that has been a great layer. And a 5 month old laying a lot. How can I get the older one to start laying again? I have those 2 plus 18 two month olds running around and being cute. Help?
My rooster is big and beautiful. All I know is what I was told - Orpington Cross. Just today I noticed his beautiful tail is going to the side a bit. Is there something to be done about a flopped tail? We do have Marek's so it could be that. He is 5 months old. Thanks!
I have gotten myself into a situation. I have one 1-year old hen, two 5-month olds - 1 pullet, 1 rooster, and a flock of 3-week old chicks. Chicken math got me. So my chicks are quickly outgrowing their space in the coop. At what age would you consider merging everyone? The older 3 chickens are...
My eggs have harder than usual shells and yolks that break no matter how gentle I am. I wanted to poach some eggs and went through about 10 eggs trying to get 4 good ones. I couldn't separate the yolks for hollandaise either. What is wrong with my eggs?
I have some 2 month old chicks that are ready to integrate. The problem is, these chicks (pullets?) stay huddled in the corner of their space. I've tried for two days to get them to come out by leaving their door open but they just stay huddled and the big girls eat their food and drink their...
I had a dead chicken necropsied and found out we have Marek's. We have one 10-month old, two 5-month old, and three 2-month olds that haven't been integrated yet. What do we do now? They don't show any symptoms before dying so I can't cull that way. Do I kill them? Vaccinate them? Or just...
I lost my beautiful rooster this week. I now need a replacement - less than a year old.. Need a friendly rooster, prefer Buff Orpington, but will consider others. Thanks!
I have two 7 month old chickens, one male, one female. I have seven 3 month old chickens, one is supposed to be male. I have four unknown sex 2 week old chicks. So the questions: 1) Is it too late to add another set of day old chicks with the 2 week olds? 2) And this one's a bit more complex. I...
*I've decided to pass on the adults and just get all chicks. Thank you!*
I have one 8 month old hen one 5 month old rooster, and nine 2 month old. They are all very friendly - I hand raised them. Today I'm supposed to pick up 4 adult hens and 4 chicks. My concern is, when I integrate the new...
I have a couple of questions. First the easy one. My coop has a linoleum floor for easy clean up. The poop board does as well. What kind of bedding should I use, how much of it, how do I clean it?
Second: I have a "flock" of one hen and one rooster. I have 10 chicks that are supposed to be one...
We started with 14 chickens in March. All but 3 have died. Now we are losing another one. I was getting an egg or two a day but none for the past 3 days. The one that's dying started hanging out by herself a few days ago and today she's kind of laying on her side like the last one did. She won't...
I have an EE rooster and 2 BO hens. I have 4 EE hens and a BO rooster + 6 BO females. Is that going to be enough hens to roosters to have them all get along? 4 EE hens and 8 BO hens? Also will they crossbreed? If so, how would I go about getting BO chicks?
