Hi everyone - new chicken keeper here. Our gals are 8 months old and coming into their first winter up here in Canada.
When I was out changing the water this morning, I noticed our CCL legs look a bit thicker than the other hens. They were always thicker but this seems even more thicker than...
I know yolks have white dots to show fertility but a couple of our recent eggs have multiple spots on them and they seem surrounded by dark orange and white?
I can’t find ANYTHING online about this and it’s turning me off of my eggs 😂
Someone please help!
I have been told that Shellless eggs are normal for new girls just learning to lay….
We have two hyline browns who have had no problem coming to lay. They regular eggs almost daily.
Our EE began laying late july and is still laying shellless eggs 2x a week.
Our OE began laying end of august...
We have a few girls coming into lay right now. I’m expecting our olive egger and our CCL to lay within the next 3-6 weeks.
I checked both girls to see the width of their pelvic bones and the CCL, even though she is a month younger seems to have spread further apart… 2.5 fingers versus the 1.5...
So I have one Pullet who is constantly laying soft shelled eggs.
She is a new layer so I know it may take a bit of time but all of our other layers have perfectly fine, hard shelled eggs and lay regularly.
They get layer feed and baked shells separately available.
This is the only Pullet with...
I have chickens ages 14 weeks to 24 weeks.
Our oldest 2 are established in their laying pattern, but our newest layer at 20 weeks is every couple of days.
I’ve also noticed this shellless egg in the coop under their roost the last couple of weeks every few days….
It looks like someone is just...
This is lemon. I’m assuming she is a crested cream legbar cross. She came to me as a hatching egg.
Any guess what she’s crossed with? 19 weeks and not laying yet.
Would love to know if anyone has an EE that looks like her.
First time chicken owner.
17 week barnyard mix Pullet.
It looks like a Shellless egg under her roost this morning.
Was quite lethargic for about 20-30 minutes after. Now she is moving around just fine.
But she did have a poop that looks a bit slimy - see photo.
Her comb has never really...
Sooo many different amounts listed on websites… so figured I would ask here.
How many eggs per week does you CCL hen lay? ALSO, what size? And when did they start lying?
Thanks!
Pic for attention
I know I won’t know until she lays but thought it might be fun to guess what this backyard mix may lay based on her traits.
I have NO idea what the parents are.
She has a really big comb and wattles at 16 weeks.
And her earlobes look white/bluish…
What do YOU think?
We picked up two POL hens yesterday, and today there was what looks like a soft shelled egg in the coop.
I don’t know if they ate it or if it cracked and smeared when I opened their door.
It looks like some peck marks on some spots… I’m just so sad to think that we are JUST starting on our egg...
First time chicken mama…
This gal is 14 weeks backyard mix and this week her face has started to turn red!
Is she starting to get ready for egg laying?
Hi all - I’ve seen images and infographics but still not sure if this is unusual poop or maybe from extra water with the first heat wave of summer?
Or should I be getting some antibiotics or something?
Everyone is acting normal. All 6 pullets are backyard mixes.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
What do you think? Some pics of the chicken alone and with the others from eggs hatched at the same time.
I think it’s possibly a cream legbar crossed with an Easter egger.
What do you think of this mutt at 6 weeks? Pullet or roo?
Photos next to some hatch mates for comb and wattle reference.
It’s a gorgeous bird - really hoping for a pullet so she can stay! ❤️
I know it’s too early to be sure…. 4.5 weeks old.
But what breeds do you think this mutt could be?
And do you think it’ll be a pullet or roo? I will update pics in a few weeks as well!
