    GMO-Free chicks

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I just ordered broilers and found these: https://www.freedomrangerhatchery.com/freedom-ranger-chickens.asp Ordered two batches of 25 -- that's enough killing for one day for this family. Hopefully they'll do well. That's all I'm ordering from now on...

26 Layers, not a single egg in two weeks

We've had chickens for a few years but this is our first winter with Aurucanas. Not a single egg in almost two weeks. They've been laying great all summer. What the heck??? Nothing has changed, same food, water, etc. There are 26 layers and 2 roosters (and 3 chicks so they were laying, lol.)...

    Resting before wrapping

We have ours in lightly salted ice water in big garbage cans with bags. Is that an okay medium in which to let them rest for two days? They were done by 8:30 last night. We were going to wrap today but have read that they need to rest for up to 3 days. I'm going out of town this afternoon till...

    Salt brine

We just did our first batch today: 43 chickens (lost 7 of the original 50). They are in trash bags with ice and salt overnight. We plan to package them tomorrow. What is the purpose of the salt in the ice water?

    6-Week old broilers dying...

Hopefully someone can help us here... This is our first time with broilers, Cornish Cross. We have 50 broilers, they are in an 80sf box, being moved twice a day on pasture. Plenty of feed 21% protein starter, non-gmo. Plenty of water. Actually, we soak the feed overnight, then drain. They...

How to see most recent posts first in a thread

Can anyone tell me how to do this? If it's possible? I've spent 30 minutes looking and can't find the yes or no answer... Reading posts backwards makes me dizzy! Thank you!

    Hello from Lexington Kentucky

We just installed our four new white chickens (have no idea what they are) in our brand new home built chicken tractor last night. We had chickens in Costa Rica and loved those fresh eggs! Looking forward to learning and eating some good eggs! Anyone else in KY or Lexington, don't hesitate to be...

Chicken owners in Houston or Austin, Texas?

Howdy, we are moving to either Austin or Houston, depending on schools. I'd love to have advice from anyone in those cities who are raising chickens for eggs. No rooster (too many years in Key West, FL...), just quiet hens. Would like them to free range on my yard, that would be ideal. I've...
