I got 10 chickens and am free ranging in my back yard. Had some issues with them going to the neighbors', but solved it
Anyway, I have 4 nest boxes, but they all lay in the far left box! I get about 6 eggs a day (as the hens are calming down and getting settled) but usually I find a broken one...

I'm about to buy about 8 chickens. I was wanting some that would be good for home, and would have some colored eggs. If you all have any suggestions of good breeds for the home? They will have plenty of space for free ranging.

Hey, I'm getting my first chickens and we decided that we couldn't build a coop. So I thought I'd buy one. I selected this one (http://farmnyard.com/Chicken-Coop-Large-Capecodder-Dual-Pen-6-15-birds-Large-CpCoddr-Dual-Pen.htm) for my needs, what do you all think?
When the weather is bad, should I keep my chickens cooped up (haha) or should I let them make the choice to go outside or not, and leave their door open?
If I use a sand floor in my coop, will it stay cold in the coop? The page on using sand floors says that's one of the plusses in the summer, but is it a minus in the winter?
Also, have you all had good experiences with sand flooring?
