How do you handle multiple roosters?

I have five (soon to be six) young chickens, at least three of which appear to be cockerels. I have hand raised them all and am very attached. My flock consists of three older ones that are already living in the coop, which I am pretty sure are two hens and one rooster. The other two are...

Letting them free-range for the first time - what to expect?

I am painting the coop today and want to let the girls out of their pen. They've never been out on the loose before. How will I get them to come back? They are two Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and one Silver Laced Sebright. Thanks for your help. Artie

Hamburg's eye - swollen, watery, blue and she's wheezing

I am seeking help for my citron hamburg, Gracie. She's had this infected eye since I brought her home about a month ago but I had been treating it and it had cleared up. It's suddenly back with a vengeance and this morning I hear her wheezing very quietly. I am flushing her eye out with saline...

Eye bubbles? And is the nose runny too? PICTURE. Help!

Ugh! Now one of my Wyandottes seems to have something wrong with her eye. I noticed that a bubble had actually formed, like her eye had blown a bubble. It pops and then another one forms. It's hard to get a photo, but this picture at least shows how teared-up the eye is and now that I'm seeing...

I am SO not getting anything done since I got my chicks...

Hello all - New chicken-obsessed member here. One week ago today I brought home the chicks listed in my signature (there was one more Hamburg, but she died of unknown causes two days after she came here). I am in southern Minnesota where it is still way too cold to have the chicks outside, so...

Do chickens have a lot of health issues?

Or am I just having a bad week? It's my first week with my chicks, and I can't say it's been going well. In fact, it seems like one thing after another. Is this just the way it is with chickens? How can people stand it!

Vitamins A and E -- how much do you give to chicks?

Or is there a good multi-vitamin for chicks? Or do I use a people one? I'm seeing a few issues with my chicks and it's possible they have a vitamin deficiency. I have a whole cabinet full of vitamins, but don't know how much to give them. Vitamins A and E seem the most likely culprits at this point.

UPDATED w/PICS - Hamburg chick with bad eye - it's still bad :(

Any ideas of what this could be? I've had her home not quite a week. Her eye has been like this since she came home and hasn't improved at all, in fact, it's maybe gotten a little worse. Please help if you can. I have heard you can put Neosporin in their eyes - is that correct? Anything else I...

Hamburg chick is keeping one eye closed

My beautiful little Citron Hamburg, about five weeks old, I've had her for less than a week. She seems pretty normal except that she keeps her right eye closed most of the time. It looks normal when it's open, but that doesn't happen very often. Anyone know what this might indicate? Thank you...

Can dogs pick up any illnesses from chickens?

Hi all -- I just got my chicks yesterday and we're (me and my two dogs) still adjusting to the change in our household. So far my boys (dogs) and chicks haven't met, but before they do meet I want to make sure I'm not putting my boys at risk in terms of anything they might pick up from the...

    Sick chick

Hello everyone. I picked up my 8 chicks yesterday. They are different ages, so I have the little ones (5 of them) in a brooder separated from the big girls. One of the little Campines (just over a week old), is listless and not eating. He is standing off by himself and doesn't seem interested in...
