I have day-old chicks coming my way today. What's the best for them? Here is my senario:
1. Broody Hen #1: Silkie, still in the coop, and has been broody for a week. (Has she not been brooding long enough to sneak the chicks under her?)
2. Broody Hen #1: Bantam cochin, in brooding hutch...
I have FBCM eggs in my hovabator (and under my broody) and it's lockdown day! :: bites nails ::
Here are my questions:
1. Hovabator: I only filled one of the troughs and the humidity is at 70% (after 20min)....do I go ahead and fill the second? That's what the directions say but I wasn't sure...
I moved some of my "unsure" marans eggs to the incubator a couple of days ago to give my broody a break. I am still unsure of those eggs BUT...the ones I left under my first time broody (there are 4)....It's a party in all FOUR! I am on day 11. Gosh this is eggciting!
just thought I'd share...
I came home for lunch and Blueberry was sitting in her trance-like state....but NOT ON THE EGGS! I am not sure how long they've cooled but she was sitting on them when I left for work this morning. Are the eggs still ok?
My 6mo old Barred Rock is not feeling well. Here are her symptoms:
- lathargic and sleeping alot
- not eating
- comb is droopy
- small wite spots on her face and comb - could be that she is getting pale?
She is separated from the flock. I've fortified her water with electrolytes and vitamens...
Ok I would like you to meet one of our BR named "Pat". We've named her "Pat" because we don't know if she is a Patricia or a Patrick.
Here are her/his other pullet mates plus Mariah's bum (our only Brahma)
Here is a better head shot of "Pat"
As you notice, "Pat" has a more devoloped comb...
