So good to be back again

Hello! I joined back in April 2008, but a lot of life happened and due to health issues I was unable to continue with chickens. After a divorce and three surgeries I am finally able to do physical things again. I miss chickens so much, they make me laugh. I'll be getting chicks this coming...

Dry incubation - question on early hatching breeds

Hello, I am in the midst of hatch of Buckeyes, which I've always had early starts on hatching. This round, the first pipped on day 19. I have 14 out of the 17 hatched, not sure if there is anything going on with the other three at this point. The instructions for the Dry Incubation method...

WTB - Silkie Hens - Eastern Shore, MD

Hello, I'd love to find some local Silkie hens to brood for me this spring. Some of my hens pretend to go broody, but then leave the nest for too long...and you don't get chicks that way. Thank you for any help in the matter. Have a VERY happy and prosperous New Year! Best, Melissa...

I'm here, what did I miss?

I was pretty active on here close to two years ago, but I went to grad school, and had to disappear for awhile. It's really hard to juggle home, work and a family...then throw school into the mix and it's just absolutely crazy. I hope that everyone is well, and I'll get to work getting back in...

Where do we report incorrect links?

The link to the Dry Incubation page in the Learning Center actually takes you to the Candling page. I tried it a few time. Thank you. Melissa

    Does my hatcher smell...

or is it a bad egg? I really think that my hatcher smells from previous hatches. I have bleached and lysoled it between last year and this year. I have a batch in lockdown and I am smelling a hint of the bad egg smell, but I am afraid to open the 'bator. I smelled each egg before putting in...

    Inventions...

I would like a 21-day time machine... Well, maybe even better one that you could adjust... Oh what trouble I could get into. Waiting for eggs is just tortuous, though. The 'bators should come with mini-time machines. What sort of inventions do you all want?

    Sumatras - is there auburn?

I have two Sumatra roos and one has dark reddish-brown feathers mixed in with the black on his wing. I was wondering if they have an auburn color, like the Javas. Thank you for any input.

    Dry incubating? please share stories

I am interested in hearing more about people's experience with dry incubating. I am using Hovabators and have chicks right at hatch. I live in a humid region, so maybe filling the tray, per the instructions, really doesn't work here. Did you get better hatch, worse hatch? Do you live in a...

Hello all, I have a pair of Black Javas, and will be hatching out some this year, but they were hatched from the same batch of eggs, and I want some genetic diversity. Does anyone in Delmarva have Black Javas? Thank you so much for any information.

    I don't think s/he will make it...

I'm not terribly broken up, as there is little I can do other than give him the water, and I have tried. It seemed fine out of the incubator, but started pecking at it's feet. The water...even the sugar water doesn't seem to be helping...The poor thing is slipping away. I put it back in the...
