    New coop for our girls!

We started with an 8x12 shed on cement slab. The shed is divided into two halves - theirs and mine where my side is storage for their feed, pine shavings, coop tools, etc.

6 month old Roo - McKinney TX

Young Roo - complete mutt but a beautiful young boy. Unfortunately he sings too much, too early, and too loudly for our neighborhood. He needs a good home. At 6 months (hatched out on mother's day 2012), he's already about 2 feet tall and around 8 lbs. He's used to an enclosed run half the...

    My first broody hens

First it was blondie - my Mille Fleur bantam but we weren't ready for that in March so we isolated her in mesh floor pen and she's no longer broody. Then it was Tiny our curious little Sebright. So, I got her a mixed batch of fertilized eggs on April 18. Just this week, our Barred Rock, Big...

    Hen chases squirrels

Unfortunately it happens so quickly that I've been unable to capture pictures or video but I have this 6 month old buff orpington RI Red cross that has this thing about squirrels. If one is on the ground, she'll take off across the yard and chase it up a tree. If the squirrel chooses to run...

    Bgak

Seriously, what does bgak mean? It starts off as buck buck buck getting a bit faster then a loud BGAK! All the girls stop what they're doing and look at the hen speaking. If I do this they all look at me like I'm nuts or pronounced it wrong.

    Hen needs more calcium?

One of my RIRs (Spicy) has been laying eggs that are like a sheet of brown paper with an egg laid on them. They are on Layena layer crumbles, have oyster shell as free choice, and free range about 12 hours a day. I'm assuming to harden up her eggs, she needs more calcium. So, should I start...

NM - we're gonna keep him. He's working so hard to make the two flocks act as one group and we want fertilized eggs.

    Limping/Lame 18 wk old rooster

About 10 days ok, one of our young roosters started limping a bit. He's eating and drinking and it was very minor when it started. Now it seems to be progressing and it's wing seems to be hangnig. He tried to flap at me and couldn't get that wing up and then just fell over. His eyes are...

    Hi from North Texas

Hi! or Howdy! Got my first chickens from a friend who couldn't keep his chickens due to a zoning ordinance and code enforcement finding out so I have a young flock of 2 roosters (Mille Fleurs and beautiful) and 3 hens (1 Mille Fleur and 2 Sebrights). They now have a lovely coop - aka the...
