I got 2 new chickens the other day. One is a 2 month old hen and the other is a 3 month old rooster. Well the others will not stop pecking them...and the 2 new ones are too dumb enough to run and they just cower (sp?) and take the torture. Well they have pecked them to the point of bleeding...
The hatch is going great! I have 5 KC and KC/Rouen crosses. Although I can't tell if I got any of the crosses. The lady I got these eggs for FREE from had only 1 Rouen hen to the 3 KC hens and 1 KC drake. I have a Chocolate Call completely zipped and he's peeping at me right now. Just...

Sounds pretty good - but complicated. I use a separate hatcher with the temperature set at 98 degrees and I keep the humidity at 70-75% the entire time - which is pretty easy for me to maintain if I have wet washcloths stretched over the entire bottom of the incubator (I incubate and...
Lockdown is going good. I have 5 beautiful Khaki Campbell or possibly some Khaki Campbell/Rouen crosses in there too . I have a Chocolate Call duck hatching right now . I stick a straw down one of the vent holes and I have this little funnel that I put into the straw and I add water that way...
Well one was able to get out. He made his first poop inside the egg too. So now he's trying to figure out how to use his legs! The other one is still trying...I'll leave them alone...
Well I have 2 ducklings today, the day of lockdown! 3 days early! So here are some pics of the start of the hatch. I video taped some clips but I can't load them onto here. Then there are the pics of the ducklings.
Ok, I have 2 that are still sitting in the bottom half of the egg. I don't think they can get out. I have the eggs in an egg carton...so I'm assuming that is why. There is another egg that has a large pip...but I can't see inside the hole yet. Everytime I go in there and talk to them they...
Well I think I have it under control now! I have 2 that are completely zipped, one of those is half in/half out! Then I have a 3rd that is starting to zip! So my humidity looks good now...thank you all for all your support!!! Will post pictures soon! I have a thread in the Duck Index called...
I have egg cartons I can put them in. I didn't have them setting in a turner the whole incubation time...I just set them in it today. I thought that it would help with them no knocking all the others around. I'll try and get the bathroom steamy and put them in the cartons! I now have 3 that...

Lockdown for my duck eggs is today! I just went in there around 1:20pm and 2 have pips! I can hear them quacking! I wasn't prepared for that until Thursday when day 28 is!!! I set them on the 1st of April at 6:45pm...so naturally I'm thinking that at 6:45pm tonight will be when I set them...
Lockdown is Monday night at 6:45! I have an LG styrofoam incubator with fan installed. My questions are:
Is putting the eggs in the egg turner a good idea for lockdown? (not plugged in of course)
Is putting a towel or washcloth, layed out, on the bottom a good way to boost humidity up...
Well it looks like all the ducks are still alive in the eggs, so that's a good sign. Let's just hope that my little mishap didn't cause any real stress or anything with them cause tonight at 6:45pm is lockdown!
Ok, so it is now early Monday morning...I first set the eggs in the incubator at 6:45PM on the 1st of April. So tonight at 6:45PM I am going to turn them for the last time. Should I use the egg turner to set them in for lockdown? Also, what is the best way to keep that humidity up to 65%...
Wow! Thanks for the info! I'm not sure what happened. I just put batteries in the thermometer when I started the incubation. All I know is that it dropped to 89.8 for a few hours. I don't have it connected to any kind of surge protector at all. I have them in a storage room and there is...
