I have a question? Would it be possible to add nipples to a heated bucket or heated muck bucket? I have both from my horses, and wondered if it would be an option for the winter? (Bonus, cuz I already have them sitting around)
Sorry to hijack your thread!
I too have hens back from the fair. Its been almost a month. They were quarantined for 2wks, then put back in general population. 3 or 4 days after being back in with others, one presented with a runny eye, and another was gurgly and rattly while breathing. I put...
I had my entire flock killed by coons two nights ago! They broke into my shut coop(coons can open latches!), and killed 12 hens, and my roo. I put out a live trap, and golden marlin mixed with coke last night. The trap got one, and the marlin got a huge coon, and two possoms! One of the coons...
And this is the 3rd little chick. These babies are from my very first incubating attempt, and from my new birds I've purchased over the last few months from wonderful people on BYC! So my birds and I are both first time chickie parents!
I thought the same thing on the remaining eggs Laura. pulled them this morning, and candled, they were all dead:( I did egg topsy's on them, looks like 2 died before lockdown, and the other 2 CDS never pipped thru the membrane. My 2 remaining silkie eggs, 1 may have died before lockdown, but...
Another update..
I transfered the little ailing baby back to the bator. He just wasn't keeping warm enough in the brooder. I think, by how he's acting, if he makes it to morning it will surprising. But at least now, he's warm and comfortable, sleeping on a pillow of paper towel. The little guy...
The little amadeus baby is up and around. He is now in the brooder with the others, he is a tiny thing! Definetly slower than the others, but I'm keeping fingers crossed for him.
I haven't had any activity from the other 6 eggs:( We are ending day 23. I'm concerned that opening the bator to...
Well...the little guy is still with us. I pulled him out and gave him a vitamin drop, and took a better look, he has a bit of an umbilical stub on his bottom? He just lays flat out in the bator, but has moved positions. I think what happened is he didn't have the egg yolk fully absorbed when he...
I currently have 4 CDS babies, and 3 of my silkie's. One little Amadeus chick is not going to make ithe pipped a lg whole in the egg, and then gave up. (24 plus hours) I attempted to help, and we got him out of the shell, but he is weak and not thriving.
I still have 6 eggs yet to hatch, but we...
UPDATE!
I now have 2 Amadeus eggs hatched and drying, day 20. They started pipping late last night. I also have 1 of my silkies hatched!! I'm ubber excited!! 7 CDS, and 3 silkies to go!
Thanks Laura!!
Lock down today! After candling, I'm now putting 9 CDS eggs, and 4 of my own silkie eggs into lock down.
I'm praying they all hatch, with out complications. I still have the little Gino egg, but at candling, the chick is sooo tiny! He was still wiggling around though? The air sac on that egg...
Oh that is awful! Darn PO.
I'm getting super nervous! There were a few in my batch that I didn't see wiggling, but they looked as developed as the others, and a few of you have said they do sleep? They are just getting to the point where it's getting harder to candle because they are filling...
I was thinking along those lines. I'm just not sure how long they will stay warm. We can run the generator while stopping to eat and when we stop at rest area;s, so I was thinking hot water bottles, or those things you put in the microwave and heat up for your neck? (I could rewarm in the...
