    Moving with 5 hens.....

Thanks! The coop is large enough to house at least 20 birds so I think I would rather lock them in there for about a week then invest in something that won't stay up. They free range now on about 30 acres and we have never had an issue, of course they were enclosed because we got them at 1 week old.

    Moving with 5 hens.....

Thank you for your responses, this will be something temporary because as I have stated are birds are free range only. I have been told a week in an enclosure will be enough and then they will know where there coop is and return there for nesting, food and sleep. I like the idea of the deer...

    Moving with 5 hens.....

Hi! So we are moving in a week and the place we bought has a huge coop, which is really exciting. But here is my dilemna. Money is tight and the coop has no run attached to it and we have gone back and forth looking at materials to make a temporary enclosure because our girls are free range...

    A few egg questions.....

Thank you for that information. They do have food all day but it seems like at night they want fresh food, maybe I have spoiled them. LOL I also give them back all the shells because I was told that was great for calcium. I will look into the oyster shell. There coop does have chicken wire...

My hens.....I need a few questions answered please!

Yes the roosts inside the coop are high but they got used to being in the barn before the coop was built so they roost on the paddock fence. They will go in ther coop to eat, drink and lay eggs (except for one) but by 8pm they are jumping on that fence.

My hens.....I need a few questions answered please!

No we do not have a real run, we have chicken coop surrounding it just to keep my 19 month old twins from getting to close to coop til they understand it's not a playhouse. LOL But part of it is attached to my horses paddock so they come and go thru there. I can try and close that part off for a...

My hens.....I need a few questions answered please!

Ohhh lock them up, didn't even occure to me. But yes, I will have to wait as we have been in the 3 digits for a month now. They will hate it for sure, but it will have to be done. The good thing is they all go up on the fence at 8pm so I don't have to hunt them down. LOL Is there a way, whent...

My hens.....I need a few questions answered please!

Hello good people! I was on here about 5 nights ago and got some advice on getting my girls to roost in there new coop (they love the paddock fence). Tonight is night 4 that we have had to physically (after dark) put them in their coop. No biggie but I am concerned they not go in on there own...

Hens really like roosting outside on the fence

Thank you! It was still light out when we tried. The funny thing is they hang out on the part of the fence where my horse sleeps at night, maybe they chose him as their personal body guard lol, but I do worry something will happen so tomorrow night I will give it a go and hopefully they will...

Hens really like roosting outside on the fence

Hello poultry lovers..I have 5 hens who are just over 4 months old. When we got them as babies we raised them in our garage in a little pen until they were able to be introduced to something bigger. Before we were able to built their coop we moved them to our barn and built a nice size enclosure...
