Hi all, my hen is quite elderly (9 this year!) and I recently noticed a strange lump on her crown. White and crusty in appearance and completely dry to touch. I left it a bit thinking it might be dirt but had another check today and it came off in my hands. It left a crater in her crown, no...
Currently I own a Nikon J1 and I find it not only super easy to use but gives very clear images. also the continuous shooting mode is great for animals (and little sisters!) who wont sit still!
(maybe not the greatest photo from my camera, but seriously the continuous shoot is a blessing!)
We give our girls a little salad in the morning (they can't free range as we have terrible trouble with foxes) and as I put the food out in the morning they'll run under my feet, on my feet, on their perches (rather awkwardly at my knee height) and even on the plate!!
No matter how sad I'm...
Okay before you read the rest of the post imagine this... There is a drive, then a house and behind the house a garden and then the welsh countryside. Got it? Brilliant welcome to my grandmas house from a birds eye view!! :D
So I bought 2 new chicks and I was in the drive, I was just about to...

Odd thread but okay! Here's my story.... I had my four chickens in a thick wire coop and the fox managed to pull the door that opens inwards outwards. Fortunately he only killed one of my dears. Foxes are devious, they are opportunistic demons. Beware the fox.
Don't worry I had an unexpected roo and although he is noisy, terrified of birds and hates long purple dresses, he is my pride and joy! Roos are brilliant and keep the girls in check, stop rival pecking and protect from predators (to a certain extent!!)
Just keep lots of cantact with your roo...
