I think all chickens need additional calcium from some source for nice hard shells; I see a lot of people just feeding the chickens their own crushed up egg shells instead of oyster shells too so maybe if you don't want to purchade oyster shells you could do that??

I give a little cup (I think its about 2 cups) almost everyday to our chickens and never had a problem (Im using a horse feed) and they love it! The 2 cups is split between about 18 chickens so they aren't getting a ton but no one has ever got sick from it so I think its ok

I switched from years of raising RIR and BR to Red Stars and I find they don't eat quite as much as the other two breeds, forage better and I get eggs on a more consistent basis. I have no idea what that person was talking about??? Very weird.
I've had chickens for years and finally broke down and bought a new incubator and would love to hatch my own chicks. I currently have Red star hens and will be getting a rooster but my question is...If i get a Black Star rooster will the chicks still be sex link? This may be a silly question but...
