We have a pile of cedar dust from where we have cut cedar boards with the saw mill. They run straight for it and will dust bath in it over the hundreds of spots of dust in our yard. Someone forgot to tell mine it is not good for them.
Jessie,
I just saw your post. It is possible I may have one. One roo is already spoken for to a friend of my husband's. I really think we will have at least 2. It will be about 3 more weeks before they will begin to try to crow and I will know for sure. The two I am suspicious of being...
The 5 chicks are now fully integrated with the grown ups at 8 weeks. My concern is about food. I have a feeder with grower and a feeder with layer. How do they do with that? Will it hurt the babes to eat the layer?
Feeling sad today. The mama hen left the babies and went into the cop with the big girls. The poor little things were lost when it was bed time. The big girls didn't let her back on the roosting bar and she is sleeping in the nesting box. I want to go get her and move her back to the babies...
Here is a picture of the babies. One I think is Easter Egger x Jersey Giant, one is Easter Egger x Barred Rock, one is Easter Egger x Easter Egger, one is Easter Egger x Production Red (I think), and no clue who the mama of the fifth is. Looks like it will be a wheaten Easter Egg look alike...
My Jersey Giant mama and the 5 chicks who hatched successfully. She is doing good with teaching them. We have them separated from the rest of the hens and rooster. Mama is the bottom of the pecking order. How do I go about integrating them in the whole flock or should I wait awhile?
We just hatched 5 new babies. The mamas were production red, barred rock, jersey giant, rhode island red and wyandotte. The roo was an easter egger. Are all the new babies just easter eggers now? LOL How likely will it be to get colored eggs?
We just had two broodies for the first time. They hatched 6 out of 8 eggs. One of the mamas was being ugly so I moved her back to the regular pen and the other mama is taking care of the 5 chicks. One chick disappeared.
