K-12 Chickens,
I'm assuming Blondie is egg-bound because she only visits
the nesting box when she is ready to lay an egg. I will
put her in a warm bath. Thank you for your help.
It's been over 12 hours and my beloved hen, Blondie, hasn't moved out of
the nesting box. Her feathers make her appear all puffed up. And I noticed
the red comb on top of her head is shriveled up, not plump like her sisters.
We've had the girls for over a year and I've never noticed this...
Hi Shana09! I hope you find the stash of eggs your chickens have been laying. You say you've been
rearranging the flock quite a bit and I know chickens are sensitive to that. Maybe they are protesting
until you show them that they are there to stay! Lisa

Yes! I'll take a picture right now. The rings are kind of small.
Oh! When you first talked about "rings" before you edited and came back with a picture I thought
you were talking about rings on an egg. Maybe another member will be able to tell you about
the markings on your...

Hello Patricia Jane! We are neighbors! And yes, chickens are very addictive! They started out being our sons' project but
I quickly bonded with them...and yes, much to our boys dismay I started giving them names. I'm still shocked that a sales
person gave my husband such bad...

Hello FriendlyFlyer! Your posting has already made me feel 100% good again! Thank you.
I love the idea about making her a little gangplank to walk up to the roosting area to join her sisters at night. Brilliant!

Hi Egghead_Jr! I just looked on the bag of Purina pellets and it does say that
calcium has been added. So no more added oyster shells for these girls either!
I am curious about your comment of "feed the pellets in a food dish".
I'm thinking they'll have an even better opportunity to...

What you need to do is wean your girls from their candy and make them eat good healthy food. This will be about as easy as doing the same thing to children.
I would just remove all scratch from their vicinity and force them to eat the pellets when they are hungry. Don't...
This is our current problem. One of our hens flew over the 6 foot fence and made it
into the mouth of our black labrador retriever. Fortunately I heard her squawking and
had Jake release her uninjured. Whew!
Cinderella didn't learn her lesson and repeated the same flight pattern the following...
Our family is new at raising chickens. That being said, when we got our 5 hens several months
ago at 7 weeks old we were given some feed specially made for chicks. After a month or so
we brought home a bag of grains that included corn kernels. They seem to love it. We filled
their food...
