Heritage meat chickens - hens or roosters??

I raise Barred Rocks for meat & eggs. Not a lot of white meat on the Heritage breeds, but the roos make great chicken salad & noodles & legs for frying. The roos are no tougher than the hens. I cull at about 6 months. What makes a bird tough is improper aging. The bird needs to be iced for 3-4...

Yes, I made the yo-yo quilt. Not often that I meet anybody who knows what it is! I do yo-yo quilts for $500.00 each for full sized beds in the colors ordered. They take me around 3 months each to make. I have a lot of Cuckoo Polish & will separate them once the bad weather has passed. I just...

My Polish are my sweetest pets. Spoiled little brats. In the summer, I will separate out the colors, as I have the pens. My d'Uccles are just coming out of molt & should be laying soon.

Polisg Bantam Hatching Eggs (Frizzle Gene)

12 + Polish Bantam Hatching Eggs ~ I do not have my colors separated right now, as I pen them all together for warmth in the heated coop in the winter, so any colors, as well as splashes are possible. I send 12, plus whatever else I can fit into the box. The first image is my favorite Frizzled...

Need Help - Not sure were to ask....

Like somebody mentioned... close off the best boxes at night for a week or so. Just make sure to get out to open them up early, so the hens don't start laying elsewhere.

    All of you egg sellers

I thought about offering eggs to the local store, but, once I put my sign out in the yard, I don't have any left! I sell out every day!

    Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

I will be setting a Hatch in the next few days. The friend of mine just ordered some BCM eggs, and I just can't resist popping few mine in with hers. she didn't want to risk them in her incubator, solar pop them in my sportsman. Just waiting on them to get here. :-)

Why am I getting small eggs and jello type eggs?

A hen draws calcium straight from their bones to produce an egg shell. They should always have calcium available. :-)

Why am I getting small eggs and jello type eggs?

Do you have oyster shell out for them? Once they start laying you should offer them free feed oyster shell for the calcium It contains.

Updated 1-15-11 Very sick hen; not egg bound; diarrhea, droopy, standing upright

IMO The best wormer for chickens is SafeGuard For Goats. 1 oz per gallon of water for 3 days. 10 day egg withdrawal & no need to repeat. Unlike most poultry wormers, it also kills Cecal Worms, one of the most common in poultry.
