I was out in the coop and made a short vid of some of my chickens. They all have their own personalities...and I caught a few of those personalities on video. In the vid you will see my Sultan bantams, Silver Sebrights and Porcelain D'uccles....along with a couple "stupid pet tricks" .
enjoy!
Ok...it's been a while now.
I've been getting 4-6 eggs a day from these little hens. Quite amazing considering they are not supposed to be good layers. Now to find out which eggs are coming from which type of chicken. I get small white eggs, small tan eggs close to the same size as the white...

I have gone through almost a 50lb bag of layer since I switched from the medicated "grower"stuff... You think I'm ok with that? My youngest can't wait to eat one of his chickens little eggs
I went out to feed the chickens today and found 3 eggs laying about. 2 small white eggs and one even smaller light tan egg. I raised these chickens from chicks(hatched in July) and didn't expect any eggs till maybe spring. I have 3- Sultan bantam hens,2- Silver Sebright hens and 2- Porcelain...
My Sebright roo's finally have a normal sounding crow...no more squeaky voices, lol.
One of my Sultan bantams crowed for the first time yesterday....it wasn't the normal "cock-a-doodle-do"....it was more like "doodle-do". He skipped right over the squeaky stage
Closeness doesn't really matter unless you are going to pick them up. I received mine the day after they hatched....and Ideal is halfway across the states from me.
Pine shavings are fine....Don't use Cedar shavings!
Just don't use the pine shaving right away...the chicks have to learn what they are supposed to eat first and pine shavings will confuse them.
It's getting pretty late in the season for chicks...do either have any available?
I had good luck with Ideal...straight runs gave me 2 roos and 3 hens per breed I ordered. All arrived safely and are still kicking.
Sorry, I had no idea it was that old....it should be fine by itself, so no momma or brooder is necessary.
I'd try to find it a good home
Another thought:
This doesn't happen to be one of the kids favorites, does it? It could be that since it may be handled more frequently than the rest, the...
You could try to raise it in a brooder and then reintroduce it back to the flock when it is older. Maybe add another 1 or 2 chicks for company.
It might end up dead, if that problem continues...

I understand completely!
I'm lucky...if I need to thin the herd, I just call my brother and he takes them. (he has more predator problems in his area)
I'd love to do the incubator thing....it's like a mystery surprise an what you'll get. I have only ordered day olds once. I was lucky...
There are probably two typs of chicken owners on here(maybe three). Ones that have them for a hobby/pets and the ones that are in business to make money. The third group would be a mix of the two...someone that does it for fun ,but still might sell eggs or chickens on the side.
If you wanna...
with that much country side to wander around on, they are apparently finding plenty to eat.
if you want them to eat their dinner(layer crumbles) lay off the snacks for awhile. They will eat it when they get hungry, but not if they are full of goodies. So until the crickets, worms, spiders etc...
