Found the weirdest thing today. An egg in our coop with no shell, but the membrane was very rough & completely intact. It's also normal size. It's so odd.... lol I am not worried about calcium or anything cuz my birds get oyster shell & layer feed & the eggs with shells have super hard shells...
I think they must have been completely terrified after their 1st outing. I opened their coop door for them about 4 hours ago & they still haven't ventured out again yet.... LOL
Let my 2 younger chickens & my 4 guineas out yesterday. We couldn't get the last 2 guineas to go in the coop last night, but this morning they were hanging out right outside the coop. Let them all out again today. Let's see if they go back at dusk!!
I would guess 4 months. I would use grower/finisher maybe one more bag then switch to layer. I wouldn't bother with the oyster shell unless she/they appear to have soft shells since the layer feed has extra calcium already. Definitely would not give the oyster shell before they're laying.
I clipped mine. The white leghorns especially liked to hop the fence & wander. If you let them out I would start with about an hour before dusk. They will/should go in the coop on their own at dusk. Thus, no chasing!! I frequently bring out treats for my hens so they basically wait at the gate...
It makes me angry & sad when people are mean to others like that. Really, what on earth are those chickens in his back yard hurting? Absolutely nothing. The ones complaining & making a stink are just being ugly. They need to get a life and worry about themselves and not what everyone else is...

HA! I'm starting to feel that way about our RIR's! I got 3 white eggs & 1 brown egg on my busiest laying day. I have 3 white leghorns laying the white eggs & I have 10 RIR's from which I only got 1 egg!!! I haven't gotten more than 1 brown egg a day yet..... They are oh so close to...
My white leghorns started about 20-21 weeks, but I'm still waiting on my RIR that are the same age to get consistent. Got 3 white leghorn eggs yesterday & only 1 RIR egg. I have 3 white leghorn hens & 10 RIR hens. The RIR's need to start earning their keep.... lol
Wow 14 eggs in one day?? We have 13 chickens that have just recently started to lay & the most we have gotten in one day is 3. I'm starting to worry they are eating them or hiding them somewhere.
I have a large coop full of layers, 13 to be exact. I also have a small coop full of 4 guineas, a buff orp & what looks like a red sex link. The birds in the small coop are still small enough, though barely, to squeeze through the fence. I would like to be able to let them out with the others...
Here are my girls.
Here are the eggs side by side. You can tell it's been 2 weeks difference in laying for them by the size difference!! I tried to get a pic of the strange looking guy/gal, but he is still in a coop with the babies & keets & keeps hiding behind the roosts & the other...
I have 3 white leghorn & 10 RIR. I also have 2 babies (supposedly buff orp, but one of them is strange looking) that are not at laying age yet that I purchased to go with some guinea keets. The strange looking one the front (head) half of his body resembles RIR feathers & the back half resembles...
