We brought her inside, gave her a warm spray of water on her backside to clean her up. Put her in a box with hay and food, and put honey on it. I also pushed her vent back inside,(which is a first in the 3 years we have owned chickens) it came out again but we kinda expected that. How long till...
There is something wrong with one of our chickens butts. This morning there was what looked like a deformed egg hanging from a large mass of tissue, or a hemeroid, on the outside of her butt. It was brown like an egg, but soft, and it was stuck to something. I pulled it off, and my husband...
We have a weird chicken. Last April one of our hens hatched a single chick. It looks(ed) like a hen, no big red comb, small wattle, no spurs, made soft cooing or clucking noises. That all changed about 2-3 weeks ago, it is now 8 months old, bigger than mama and papa
, huge red comb and...
We have a broody hen sitting on 6 eggs. When the other hens go into the coop to lay they get growled at, and end up leaving. Will they find another place to lay or will they stop until they can sit in the box again? There is more than one box to lay in, but they insist on using just the one. In...
We have a couple of 4 month old roosters that have been doing their job for several weeks now. We have observed them mate with the ladies several times. Now one of our hens has gone broody and is sitting on 6 eggs. The only way to really tell is to candle in a week and see if they are fertile...
So we have a hen and roo that have bred. They have been observed. My hen is not quite a year old. Is she to young to sit and hatch her clutch? How old are they when they will start sitting?
Yes she does have white and black, along with lavendar, splash and blue. Her orginial lavendar stock is from Hinkjc Farm, a few of which last year produced the barring. She said he is pure orpy, from Hinkjc Bloodline. Her roos are lav splits, one is a blue and the other is black, both are off...
Also, if you look closely at the one roo with his back to us, you can see the fluffy, fuzzy, butt feathers that the orpys have. It's crazy, we've been in close contact with the seller and showing her pics as they have gotten bigger.
They are orpy's. The eggs we purchased are from NY and she doesn't have barred or cuckoo anything. Orpy's and silkies only. There is no mistake on the breed. Isn't it weird?
We just a small batch of orpy eggs and had two that came out really different. Are they cuckoo's or barred? Both are male. We cannot keep 2 roosters. Tell me what you think.
. Sorry, ("both are off spring from my old lav roo who was directly from hinkjc.") This was a quote from her listing. They are from her old lav. not "mine".
She has some silkies in a seperate pen, and a orp/cornish btm cross, also in a seperate pen. This is what she has told me when I let her know. "they are all orps their is no possibility of cross breeding...but i can tell you the lavender orp gene also carries a barring gene, i have had a few...
So we bought eggs from an Orpy breeder in NY. When they hatched 2 of the chicks looked funny. They were 3 weeks old last Sat and Sun. As they have started growing their feathers in, they are grey with light horizontal stripes, their beaks are yellow and so are the feet. The breeder said possible...
