Happiness is a small flock of chickens, fresh eggs and a garden!

Do any of you keep bees? I got a beginners hive set up for Christmas.

I only have 2 hens. I don't see any wounds on her. She was fine a couple of days ago.

My 4 year old hen has started hiding in the back of the run. She has had watery diarrhea and when I picked her up I noticed how bright red her belly skin is. Any thoughts?

I agree and know from experience!!!! My chickens love going into my vegetable garden. They follow my shovel, rake or hoe. It's so funny watching them get worms and grubs. I only allow them in the garden under supervision!!!! :weee

My Buff Orpingtons get on our laps when we sit outside with them. I always feel so special when a chicken sits on me!!!! Does that seem silly? Only to someone who has never loved a chicken!!

I would take him to a vet for an evaluation. If he is a beloved pet it will be worth it.

Another thought, your local animal shelter may have homeless hens.

How about your local feed store? Sometimes people swap out older hens. The store owner may put you in contact with someone in your area who would sell you older hens. I wish you luck!!!!

Yes, she needs friends. Chickens are very social and she will be much happier with a family of sisters!!!!

This was a first! A saw a bird dangling from my hen's beak!!! I ran out to get it away from her, but she would not let it go. She had already swallowed its head. I picked her up to see if she would let it go, no luck. My husband had to pull it from her beak. I wonder if she would have choked if...
