This is my homemade incubator. It is a still air setup. I have 2 hole on the front at the top at 10mm each. I also leave the front open slightly to regulate humidity and give extra air. i open the front 5 times a day to turn the eggs. As you can see i have a turning rack so it takes a breif...
Have been unsuccessful again. This is my second attempt out of 9 eggs only one pipped and that was 2 days late. Its is weak and seems to be struggling to get to its feet. Its been 12 hour now and it has fluffed up. Not sure if its legs are ok. In my first hatch i helped some when they were 2...
Can someone tell me how to manage the smell in our brooding area. At the moment we have a makeshift area under one of our kitchen worktops. We have moved our broody hen and her day old chicks inside due to the current cold spell we are having. The area is lined with cut strew. And the have been...
I have two coops with different birds in each. Both have white flakes on the floor.
Any ideas what it is? and why the birds are losing it? Is it normal or a health problem?
So far so good, at day 6 now and candled and weighed yesterday, but early to tell but did notice blood vessels in all 8 eggs and mainly on target for weight loss.
Is it normal not to have a clearly defined air sack at this time?
Would also like more feedback. I don't seem to be going through...
Cmom - that a big one!! how many eggs does that hold? Like you i want to put some holes towards the base of the incubator which would disturb the eggs too much so will wait until the next batch.
Arielle - no that is the ideal range at day 19. You probably already have your own way of doing it...
Good to here from a fellow bodger.
Yes the air flow is of most concern, was thinking of more holes but i got impatient and put the eggs in, so added to the ventilation by leaving a gap in the door.
I did weigh each egg once laid and will be checking on weight loss at day 10 and calculate its...
Hi
Incubating for the first time and due to the high prices here in the UK for equipment, and because i'm keep to have a go and make something better than i could afford, i've tried building my own. Have done some research, youtube and the odd chapter in "Incubation - A Guide to Hatching and...
Ok seems to have cracked two parts to my post but still looking for any help identifying what the blotches are on my yokes, worried about eating them firstly and incubating potentially bad eggs.
Thanks Animalian for your help so far. Just went to the supermarket and took a look at eggs with...
Great pictures, that could be it. Just don't see it on a newly layed egg. Still need to know what the blotches are on the yoke, they look to me to be suspicious, various sizes 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, just darker yellow to orange. Will try an get a pic to show later.
Thanks for your reply
The white spot is the same, thats great news, at least i know my cock' is not all mouth and no trousers. Will try candling again can't quite remember what i noticed last time just that the spots where even clearer to see.
I have concerns over the condition of my eggs. I have noticed spots developing on the shells of my chickens eggs. I have 3 hens, 1 ex-battery, 1 Plymouth Buff, and 1 Rode Island Red and a cock, a Light Sussex. I am attempting to bread from the Buff and the RIR, but i don't always save the eggs...
