Thanks everyone for the support. I hate losing any chicken, but when it's a special one it really gets me.
Saving up for new fencing is a priority right now, but it's a 3 acre paddock. Expensive!
We have caught the dogs before, last year. Kept one for four days to see if she would pick it up...
Warning, long rant.
A neighbor down the road lets her dogs run free. She has a pack of 4 that roam all day. We have two young Pyrenees that usually manage to convince them to stay to the other side of the road, but they still come running by on a daily basis. We managed to save one hen before...
Thanks guys. I guess we'll persevere in our trapping efforts. The hens are in lockup right now, but we want to get them out again ASAP or well have to stop selling eggs.
So what are the best baits to use for foxes and coyotes? (I don't think a bobcat will fit, will have to get another trap) We...
What the heck can take a 13 lb rooster in the middle of the day, not leave a trace, and not make a sound??? I'm flummoxed! And peeved, as he was our best. We found two of his tail feathers about 7 feet away from the fence, nothing else. Nothing in the woods, nothing in the field, nothing. This...
What should we do about this?
One of girls just finished sitting 21 days as of yesterday. Sure enough, 3 out of 5 eggs hatched. This morning we went in to check on her and she had kicked all three out of the nest and was sitting on the remaining two eggs. (Which are duds)
((The one chick...
Not quite sure if this is the right place for this, but I'm looking for a breeder of SQ or BQ Barred Rocks. I would prefer to purchase chicks.
Must be NPIP certified, would prefer if they were on the east coast, or that they ship if in the west/central US.
Thanks guys!
I have one! Sterling (AKA Uggles) is a dwarf/failure to thrive/chronically ill sort of dude. Dispite his underbite, lack of proper feathering and near-permanent sinus infection he's surprisingly chipper, though his eyes make him look funny. XD
Well, we actually ended up dropping it off at a shelter over 2 hours away. Go figure, no collar or or tags but it's chipped and it looks like she had a friend go get it for her. The dogs are still loose and we had to be down at her property (To catch the donkey jack that got out and was...
Thanks, cafarmgirl, we did have the police down, they said they won't really do anything until blood has been shed, literally. I hope it doesn't comes to that.
We did find a 'neighbor' who is technically in a different county. He's letting us use his driveway as a pickup point for AC. Neighbor...
Right now the neighbors dog is tied up on the porch. Normally we don't bother keeping the strays around, but this is the third dog of hers that has visited today. They have no fencing and are free to wander, most of the time they keep home. This morning there were two large dogs at the fence...
We had a turkey hen with the same symptoms. 'Drunk' really was the best way to describe it. Our best guess was a brain issue, physical or infection we still don't know. It was suggested to be a possible e-coli infection, we never really got a good answer though.
Anyways, we kept her in a horse...
Don't have any real help, just a similar experience. We had a turkey with almost the same symptoms. Never any signs of illness, just so uncoordinated she couldn't walk. Our best guess is some kind of anyrism or stroke.
Moved her into her in a well bedded stall for over a month, food and water...
Are you sure there aren't any breaks in the skin? We had a chick get picked on, there was only a little open spot but (I guess) it was in just the right place for her movement to 'suck' the air under her skin. She ended up like a skin balloon. It was so bad we had to remove the air with a...
Me & Jack :
Caught him when he ate a ceramic egg by mistake.
Did the ceramic egg pass or was that the end of the snake? Almost makes me feel sorry for the snake. Almost. No, not really.
We actually had him in the box because we were wondering if he could get the egg out somehow. He managed...
