Thanks for your help. I will upload one more photos tomorrow for you to see because the tail feathers might be getting pushed up by the chicken leaning against the wall.

What do you mean, it is only 17 weeks old? I was asking if it would lay soon.
I believe that is a rooster, not a hen.
Are you sure, because the rooster that is the father to this chicken is brown not white and the mother was a leghorn. I went by the characteristics of its parents.
I have a pullet 17 weeks old, i have been told that leghorns can start laying 18-22 weeks old. But this pullet looks like it is more developed then the others. I wondering if anyone could tell me if this hen is going to lay soon?

I think it is because the log perch has a larger base to hold on to and also it is smart of them because if they were on the perch with cut lumber they would be craping on each other, since it is close to being vertical and they would be above the chickens on the lower perch.

Are you saying tails down while roosting could be a sign coccidiosis? I don't want to belittle the question but the angulation of the tail is controlled by muscles. While sleeping the tail muscles relax like all the other muscles in the body. Therefore relaxed tail muscles = downward...
Sometimes it shows weakness in chickens health. My chickens had their tail down 6/20 of my hens while they were eating and perching, so I called up a few people and they said it was probably coccidiosis. I ended up losing 3 hens from that disease but I have now cured them using medication.

look at this giant egg!!
What are you feeding your chickens because sometimes they can not get all of their nutrients from chick starter? Laying pellets are designed for laying birds to make sure they can get all the nutrients they need.
This is what happened to me. It hit the 20 week mark, 1 out of 10 hens started laying. I was so happy because i thought the rest would start to lay soon, but it was three week latter than the day i got my first egg when the rest started to lay. Does anyone know why it took 3 extra weeks for the...

That is funny about it falling over! I have had terrible problems with owls picking off my pigeons in the night. I never see them in the day time.
My amaricana cross roo survived a dog attack and came back with no tail or but feathers, and a brocken leg. It survived, and in 3 weeks...
My hens were free rang until one day one of my hens disappeared and i never saw her again. Until 3 weeks ago i finally finished the outdoor chicken pen.

I am sorry to hear about your chick. If she was okay when you brought her home, it might be the rooster that you had in with her.
I adopted a white Wyandotte 9 months ago and she cried all day, so I bought her 3 babies last March to keep her company. (I did not put her with my other...

I went outside one morning (i had only 1 brown layer at the time). There were no brown eggs, then i checked in the afternoon and found 2 brown eggs. There is no possible way for my hen to hid the egg because i have a laying box which has only a thin layer of straw.
Yay Chicks! :
I'm glad to hear she is eating something. Chick starter has extra protein in it, correct? Extra protein is really helpful with the molting. I'm sorry that I can't tell you what is wrong. Hopefully, with the added info, someone will come along and be able to be more helpful...
I now have her in a cage with fresh food and water for about an hour now. She has no lice or mites, she and the other hen i have bought from the lady have just stared molting a day before i picked them up (about 2 weeks ago) one of the hens i got from the lady have stared laying yesterday. I...
The chicken is an isa brown 1 1/2 year old hen.
The hen sleeps all day and puts it's head into it feathers.
The hen has been sick or acting this way for about 2 or 3 days.
One other chicken seems to sleep alot but has a full crop and is hyper when when it is awake.
There is no bleeding or broken...
