This will be my first year overwintering ducks. I was hoping to find out how cold is too cold for me to let them outside or to play in water. The wild ducks around here play in the water all year round in an area that has run off keeping it thawed out. However, this seems too cold.
Also, If...
About five days ago I fed and watered my ducklings as usual, took a few pics and started cleaning house. I peak at them frequently as I just can't help myself ;) When I peaked at them again one duckling was down. It seemed to be affecting one leg, so I upped the niacin through syringes and gave...
What are the percentages of niacin and protien?
Is it medicated? If it is medicated don't use it.
You don't need grit until two weeks.
After a few weeks switch them to grower feed. Although, i make my own food and don't switch back and forth and they do well without grower feed.
Yes, they are the standard ancona with buff coloring for spots. You can get suprises in your breedings and have some colors show up that you didn't know were hiding in there but for the most part if you have say, blue brown and black ducks then those are generally the colors in your flock. Keep...
Look up buff ancona ducks in google images. That should bring them up. When you purchase anconas you generally can't pick which colors you get as they run together. It's all by chance. Thelonger and more that you invest in them the better chance you'll have getting the colors you want.
You need the humidity to be 45% until you stop turning them. Then the humidity will be 65% and the temp 95. If you have the humidity at 70% the aircell can't become big enough for the ducklings to hatch into.
We had a blue/brown tri which is pictured, black, hoping for some buff (we have some hatching out as I am writing you). And I am currently working on getting some eggs with other colors. If I want to see some of the variations of a breed I type it into google images and scroll through the pics :)
I loooove anconas!!! they are mild tempered, sweet, stay close to home, lay like crazy, are always happy, aren't flighty, and don't have a strong pecking order. They sort of bicker for five minutes when meeting eachother for the first time and get over it. I also like the idea that they are very...
I am thinking from past experience that you will still get some sort of hatch and the ones that do hatch will have been frozen in growth so to speak, for the period of time that they were not being incubated. It sounds to me like you have good instincts and did things perfectly. But don't be...
Thank you peacockgirl, the duckling did not make it. I'm not sure why. I figured that if it wasn't messed with it would be fine. I feel really down right now. I know that people get ducks every day. I know hatchs don't work out quite often. But that was MY little duckling in there. I was...
