    are chickens pets?

No, like rabbits the original purpose is as livestock, but some people do consider them pets. However legally they are defined as livestock, they are used for food (meat and eggs). Just because they are livestock doesn't mean you treat them inhumanely. For those who say they are pets, but plan...

2 Conish (Indian Game) roos or hens?

My two don't look half the size of yours...I mean they might weigh 3 lbs and that is PUSHING it. I was really hoping they would be hens. I contacted the fella I got 'em from and he will not respond. I wonder if that means he knows he sold me males? Maybe that is why they were so cheap...I asked...

    My dogs killed the coon

Unfortunately I discovered feathers and a missing Juvi when I did mid day water/treat/food rounds. The juvies are only 2 months old, but I did not see those feathers at 530 this morning. :( Nope a little boy--The covers look filthy, but I guess white covers when your parents work with cars...

    My dogs killed the coon

At 530 this morning I woke up to my little dog Carmel a 70lb Boxer mix throwing a royal fit and not in her usual tone. As soon as I was awake I also realized that the chickens in the adjoined pen were also throwing a fit. I thought maybe one of my 2 dogs had found a way into the chicken side of...

Novice and wanting to start a project

Wow I was tired when proof reading in the wee hours. It should say I know I can NOT reproduce those fast growing buggers that were soo tasty. But I want to get a decent meat bird. And know if breeding related poultry is going to be an issue for non-show, non-pure bred food producing birds.

Novice and wanting to start a project

Well I know I can reproduce those fast growing broiler chicks, ready for slaughter by 8 weeks of age, but I am looking for some big breasted birds. I know that Dark Standard Cornish have good breast, but are slow growers and not the best egg layers, but I bought 2 young hens today for $4.00 a...
