    I dont have an answer but I do have a strategy. Grab each chicken and feel its chest. If the ribs seem further apart on some those are laying eggs.

    The tail feathers appear to be that of a young cockerel, but the comb shows that it may be a pullet. I would wait to see if it crows.

    This may be the natural molting process happening over a prolonged period of time. I would let nature take its course.

    For the nesting boxes place eggs/golf balls in the nest as a decoy for your flock. As for the roost, they should find it naturally but it may be to high/low. Make sure the roost is higher than the nest boxes.
