I just saw this thread. I put mine on lockdown this morning. This is my first hatch of this season with 2 more staggered hatches already in the 18 day incubator waiting on their lockdown incubator and 14 more ready to go in there tomorrow (which will be the 4th hatch excluding the turkey eggs)...
Got called in to work today. Started the day by burning my thumb in my hair straightener and then getting my thumb caught and the skin peeled off. Then, I was on my bus and it broke down....all of this by 6:30 this morning. And I am definitely not a morning person. My husband sent me a text that...
I don't know the exact dimensions. The board on bottom was roughly 16 foot. I had 4 of those the same length so I used them for the top and bottom for the front and back. Then the ones on the side were either 8 or 10 foot. They were all the same so I did the same with those on the sides. This...
We have a small furniture business so I can get my hands on LOTS of scrap lumber. I also drive a school bus and substitute at the school too. I do have an old wooden ladder in my old coop that's at my mother in laws that I had forgotten about. Guess, I need to go get it this weekend.
Thanks. Its still a work in progress...It will have a roost soon. I have done all the work myself except for the doors and my husband made those for me.
This is my coop from the beginning
Then, I divided it into 2 sections
Then, I added nesting boxes and put clear plastic around it for the winter. I added black felt paper (because it was just laying around) between the two pens to keep out the cold.
I am. I started out just wanting information on chickens and ducks. That turned into ordering them. Then getting geese and turkeys. Then incubating the eggs. Now thinking about quail. I believe this site enabled me to get this far. THANKS BYC.
1. I do mine at day 10, day 14, and then at day 18 at my last turning. These are just my preferred times.
2. I have read that you have a good 10 minutes to check them. It doesn't take me long. I lift the lid, take out one, put lid back down, candle, put back in grab another, repeat til done...
I believe that light is a bigger factor. I haven't gotten eggs in a few months until last week. I have 2 coops that have a chain link fence seperating each run and coop. In one coop I put a light in with a timer 2 weeks ago. Beginning last week I got 2,2,3,3,3,3,6,6 eggs. The other coop has no...

I don't have my eggs in yet. I will have to wait a few days to get my temp/humidity where I want it. If you need help just ask me or someone else on here. We will be happy to help you through. The search engine at the top helps also.
Oh and WELCOME TO BYC !!!!
Two weeks ago my hens weren't laying at all. I put a light in the coop and changed feeds and started getting 2-3 eggs a day. Yesterday I found a whole dozen. I got so excited I fired up the bator this morning. If things keep looking up I will get the sportsman ready too. Hatching season is ON !!!
My 7 year old taught me to say "Applesauce" and "fish sticks and tarter sauce". She says its better than the words that I have said before. When I get angry at things she says are you going to say "applesauce" or "fish sticks and tarter sauce"?
