    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I have a question about Welsummer varieties. Am I correct in assuming that the APA only recognizes the Partridge variety and not the Gold and Silver Duckwing variety. I am asking because while filling out my registration for a show in January that is one of the question listed is the variety of...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I did that back early this year and built one out of plywood, 40w x2 light bulbs, bi-medal thermostat and computer fan. First hatch in May did not do too well, had humidity too high and only had 20% hatch rate. Just hatched out another batch last week and got 60% this time. It can be habit forming.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Yes, I agree, that confused me at the time also about the combs. There is another show put on by another poultry club in a different county in Jan or Feb one. I will take the same two there and see what happens.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Quote: The Judges and one of the fellow contestants ( who's bird won in the large fowl category ) liked the first ones comb because it was big. That was what they said made him more desirable over the other one. It has the distinct 5 points. I personally like the second one also because of the...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I have 3 Welsummer chicks about 6 weeks old. My hatch of 15 eggs did not go so well. Can someone tell me at what age I can expect to see enough change in coloring to determine what sex birds I have? Would it be best if I got pictures of them to show?

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I set 15 from McSpin in homemade incubator early May and 3 hatched. Checked some of the eggs and think I may have had humidity too high during lock down. This if first hatch ever, so maybe next batch will do better. The 3 are a week old and grand kids love the heck out of them. Now just waiting...

I received 15 welsummer eggs from Steve at http://insideyolk.com/, and only ordered 12. Hello I am a newbie and have been reading this thread for the past couple of weeks and just joined BYC and WCNA. I have been mostly interested in the bloodline discussion, because I have just built me a homemade incubator and half finished my coop and plan on raising Welsummers. I am not...
