My girls went through a very heavy molt this Fall. Now i get one egg a day out of four girls. They were laying really well until the molt. About how long before they begin again? Maybe it is the length of daylight?
Thanks again. I can easily do ground flax seed. They love the koi pond and last year I had no problem with soft eggs, but last year we had a lot more stringy algae in the ponds. They do love that and the snails. again hardly any snails this year. Have no idea why the difference, but that...
I have four ducks. Two buff and two welsh harlequin. Within the last week we have found two eggs that do not have the hard shell. All the ducks are from one to two years old. Since this has never happened before what should I do if anything.
Thanks!
Thanks for your comments. I guess I will just wait and see. With this behavior does egg production decrease as well? We have suddenly had a great decrease in the number of eggs per day.
I started with five Welsh Harlequin (3 girls, 2 boys) and two buff girls.
I have given my two drakes away because they would not leave my five girls alone. Things were good for two weeks now the girls are going broody and at least one of them is attempting to breed the other girls. The...
My Welsh Harlequin girl has decided to go broody. She has a nest under a shrub and I think the other girls are putting eggs there as well. The eggs we have collected from the five girls has gone down to one a day. As the number decreased I began to look for a nest by the time I found it there...

I have seven ducks. Two are buff girls, three are WH girls and then two WH drakes. The two buff girls are a year plus and the WH ducks are this years hatch. Now for the problem. The one drake has become so rough with the buff girls and the smallest WH girl that they wont get in the pond...
I herd mine in at night as well. However, if I get out a little late i find them in their pen already. They learn if it is done every night and I think they now feel safe in there.
OK. All love the water here. I was just so surprised to see the whole duck that far under water. We have so many wild mallards in N. Texas with all the ponds in the subdivisions and golf courses. I had never seen the mallards around here diving. The wild Mallard we had in the yard would...
This probably sounds silly to many of you. I have had Rouens and Buffs before they loved my Koi pond which is about 14-16 feet long 3ft deep to 5ft deep.
I now have Welsh Harlequins and they are CRAZY about the pond! They dive all the way down and go the length of the pond. Do most breeds...
Growing out of it will be really nice. She is a sweet little duck and tolerated us helping her in and out of the koi pond. She does appreciate being more independent.
i would like to thank all of you for your suggestions. I have been using Brewers yeast, vitamins in the water and more fresh vegetables. "Stumbles" is doing much better. She still seems to cross her feet over each other bore than the others but is not falling over and is almost walking as...
have been using the Brewers yeast. I think she is a little better. She is also getting vitamins. Hopefully after a few more weeks she will be able to get around even better.
