    Here's our home made brooder

Cool, and good luck on the hatch, Ya I think the plastic container works great for a brooder, and it cleans real easy, spray it out and dry then use 5%bleech water mixture to steralize, wait till dry and it's ready to use again...Works well for me so far, and as I said it's cheap..lol

    Here's our home made brooder

Nothing fancy, costs less then $7.00 because Wall Mart had a sale on the bins. We already had a heat lamp, and wire screen, so the cost was nothing compared to a store bought brooder. Same as our incubator, which we made from an old aquarium, and a 40 watt light bulb, the fixture we also had so...

    Our new babies...

Yes the eggs that didn't hatch were all empty except one that died with in the egg. Still I think it wasn't a bad adverage, we had 5 live out of 12 eggs. This was our first time incubating and now we know we can do it, the next hatch will be a larger number to start with, I'm thinking around 30...

New quail house, built this with my son, not bad for first time cage build if I do say so myself.

There are 4 girls and 1 male per cage, each cage is 2-1/2 ft by 2ft by 2ft high, there is lots of room and these birds are doing fine, also they will be killed for meat with in the first 6 months of there lives..no probs with health, or skin, feathers etc...they aren't around long enough to get...

    Our new babies...

Last night we had one more hatch so now we're 6 hatched out of 12, with 5 living. Not bad for first time incubation me thinks...The reason we had low hatch rate 50%, I believe was because we have 4 females with one male per cage, never know if you are getting a fertilized egg to start with I...

    button quail night jumping

The only thing else maybe I can think of is that thye were housed inside and the outdoors is unfamiliar to them, also to sex them it's really easy besides the rusty breast...take the bird in hand and gently press either side of privates(lack of better word) lol...when you press from either side...

Not sure about where you live, but up here in Canada, I pull them out around first of Aug, then clean, cure(hang) in a dark room. then around mid sept I pull them apart and plant in loomy soil(well composted manure) and then wait till spring, then pick the scapes...(tops that turn to seed) and...

    QUESTION ABOUT SIZE

I have Jumbo brown and they weigh adverage of 12 oz's but I have had some get larger, just not as large as 1pd. that would be huge in any circumstance. As for yours I would consider them normal, but as for a cut off point.. I think it would be around 8 to 10oz's, not sure though, others may have...
