Just a little picture update on the two roosters. (Oh, and they finally started crowing.)

The Pecking Order, A Bullied Hen, and New Rooster(s)

I know what you mean. We originally got 6 RIR hens and 2 Black Australorps. Then, after a month or two, we picked up some Red Sex Link hens and kept them in a separate coop for a while and even when it was just the 3 of them, she was at the bottom of the pecking order. Whenever we...

The Pecking Order, A Bullied Hen, and New Rooster(s)

Thanks! :) I've checked the hen out and she looks and acts perfectly healthy. She just seems to be completely non-aggressive. She's a Red Sex Link.

We've got eggs!!! and - Updated pictures of "the girls"!

Congratulations on the eggs! Pretty girls, by the way. I remember how excited I was when my girls first started laying. I was so proud! All of the people around me who don't have chickens found it amusing. They just didn't understand how nice it was to see those first eggs. They'd tease me...

The Pecking Order, A Bullied Hen, and New Rooster(s)

Alright, I have a question... or two... okay, three. I currently have 11 hens. One little hen, however, seems to be bullied for some reason. None of the other hens will allow her to eat in peace, even if I give feed in multiple places so that they aren't all piled up together. The problem...

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

Thanks :) After looking through some pictures of Minorcas, I believe that's what they are. Which is fine with me, since I am wanting to stick with breeds that are good egg layers.

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

Yeah, they have the saddle feathers. The other one has longer, more pronounced sickle feathers than that one. I've been looking through the breeds on here trying to see which description they match. lol

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

Well, I'm thinking they're not Australorps. :/ White earlobes..... Any idea on what breed/mix? And any idea on age? They haven't started crowing.

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

I'll try to get one tomorrow. It's really dark outside right now. Their earlobes, up close, look white with really really light pink on the edge of one side. I was thinking that it may be where they're so young, but I don't know.

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

Thanks, that's what I'm hoping they are. lol

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

lol But, no, I'm not positive. They do seem to have longer, pointier, feathers than my hens though. :/

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

You can't really see it in the pictures, but they have long sickle feathers and tail feathers that look different from our other Australorp hens.

New Roosters, Not sure of Age/Breed.

So, we just got two roosters and we're not sure on exact age or breed. They're very easy to handle. They haven't started crowing yet and are about half or 3/4 the size of our RIR Hens and Black Australorp Hens. The have black legs. The soles of their feet are pinkish/white like the...

Opinion on Cooop Size vs. Amount of Rhode Island Hens

I actually sat down last night and drew up a coop with attached run. The coop that I have drawn is 4 x 6, since we plan on having 6 chickens. The coop will be up off of the ground and the run will be going under from there as well. The run will be 4 wide x 10 long x 6 tall plus the extra 4...

    Fantail Uncaged??

We had a fantail for a long time. It was a complete pet. If properly taken care of and has bonded with you, I highly doubt it will take off. Mine never did and never offered to. It also rarely flew around. It was completely content to sit on my head when I was outside or to sit on top of...

Opinion on Cooop Size vs. Amount of Rhode Island Hens

I've been looking at some of the coops, have some ideas, and I'm all set on the dimensions we'll need so I'm going to attempt to draw something up and then get some materials.

Opinion on Cooop Size vs. Amount of Rhode Island Hens

As far chicken experience, I've been around them my entire life but it was in a different setting than where I currently live, so the chickens were allowed to free range and had a special section in the barn where they roosted and laid eggs. So, while I generally know (tons more to learn) what...

Opinion on Cooop Size vs. Amount of Rhode Island Hens

Thanks! :) And yeah, it's legal for us to have chickens. One of our neighbors have chickens, goats, etc etc. ((soo jealous. :P)) Tons of people around here have chickens or other types of farm animals. I have time to build my own coop, so I'd rather do that actually. For a coop that...

Hmm. Maybe we'll do that. Thanks for the idea! :)
