Comment by 'HenriettasMom' in article 'Helping your flock through molt'

I was shocked the first time Henriette molted. I've kept birds most of my like (mainly parrots) and while they molt a couple of times per year, nothing like what Henrietta did. She lost almost all of her feathers and looked like crap for a few weeks. Unfortunately, we lost her last fall...

I had one of these wonderful OEGH (silver duckwing like yours) too. She was 7 yo and continued to lay eggs almost daily. We found her dead in the barn loft late last fall. Don't know what happened as she was fine the day before and there were no visible injuries. She was the only chicken on...

    Another Newbie Wondering?

Thanks for the reply, Kari! I will try to get some better pics for tomorrow. I don't think most of the other horse owners want more chickens at the barn. Henrietta can be quite messy and often roosts at the top of the horses stalls and even sometimes on the horses' backs if they're wearing...

    Another Newbie Wondering?

This is Henrietta (yes, I know we are original ). She's about 3 years old and has the run of the barn where I board my horse. I've been at this barn since the end of Nov.. One of the other boarders has been feeding her (there is some no-name type generic chicken feed in the loft and I've been...
