    Protruding Esophagus

I went out just then and felt it again. It's still sort of 'sticking out' at the bottom a bit but she's not in any pain when I feel it... I think it must just be where her neck arches or something. It probably was just the way she was sitting then... :-) Sorry I can't get a picture because my...

    Protruding Esophagus

She's one of three and part of the family so culling is not an option Yeah, I hope its just the way she was positioned and nothing is stuck there or something.

    Protruding Esophagus

I was giving my hen a casual examination just now and noticed that her esophagus was protruding outwards, above the crop area. I'm not sure if this was the way she was standing or not but when I felt another hen's hers was not like that. Her crest isn't looking as red like a healthy one should...

    Need some Questions Answered

I'm not an expert but if it was raised it could have been a tumor (that's just the first thing that came to mind)

Is it still a respiratory infection?

My 2yr old hen (Isa Brown) hasn't been acting right. At first we thought she had wet pox, but now I'm not sure. She hasn't laid for about a month and back then she was on medication for a respiratory infection. It hasn't got better (except for the gargle noise which has lessened a bit) and now...

    Anti inflammatory for chickens

I've been giving our chicken Meloxicam which is actually an anti-inflammatory for dogs. The dosage depends on the size of your chicken. Ours is quite a big Isa Brown and she's been taking 3ml. :)

Oh okay, so it will just eventually disappear by itself?

Closed eye, lethargic, no discharge, what's wrong? (pictures included)

Yes that's definately what the problem is, thanks so much. She must have a bit of pox on her eye-lid, that is why it's causing her discomfort. How do you think they would have gotten this virus? This means that all three of my chooks have pox, two which visibly have it and one with no signs of...

Closed eye, lethargic, no discharge, what's wrong? (pictures included)

What sort of treatment would be appropriate? Is the pox the cause of the swollen eye as well? My other chook doesn't have the this problem.

    Is this normal? (photos included)

I noticed this yesterday and I was wondering whether or not she is perspiring or this is the symptom to some sort of developing illness. (Sorry it's rotated) The temperature today was 35'C but she was doing it both afternoons and evenings. Thanks for any replies :) p.s. This thread is...

Closed eye, lethargic, no discharge, what's wrong? (pictures included)

Here are some pictures: ^Her eye that is fine and the lumps on her wattle/comb ^Closed sore eye with lump ^Open sore eye The eye seems to be swollen. Could this be a form of chicken conjunctivitis? As for the scabby lumps... Fowl pox? We only just got her two weeks ago (along with...

Closed eye, lethargic, no discharge, what's wrong? (pictures included)

My 5 month pullet almost always has her left eye closed. She opens it only to movement or loud noises. At first, I thought it was because our older hen had pecked her eye as there seems to be a scab on it, could this 'scab' be causing her discomfort? She has no pus or discharge coming from the...
