I have a misting system in my coop because my girls are SUPER SPOILED!!! I also have a white cotton curtain on the side of the coop that gets the most heat. If it gets super-hot, I put a bit of Pedialyte in their water. Again. Super. Spoiled.
You are definitely not alone. I know quite a few people in the SFV area. I'm in Burbank and am very, very involved with the L.A. Urban Chicken Enthusiasts. We have meetups all the time in the L.A./SFV/SGV area.

This is the last week of loquats. I'm going to get outside after work today and fill up as many bags as I can. I'm going to make one big batch of loquat butter, one batch of ice cream and puree and freeze the rest. Then hopefully I can get a manicure in a couple of weeks for a party I'm...
My pits just pop right out. Here's my technique.
Slice down the center with a paring knife. Peel, pop pits out with the blossom end.
In two hours, I usually have a good 6-8 lbs. done minimum. If you have a friend over, you can double that!
If I was having more issues than that, I...
Loquats, loquats and more loquats! I have about 300 pounds on my tree and I've already canned 3 dozen jars of jam. This weekend I'll do jelly, chutney, and probably fruit leather. I'm also planning on making a couple of loaves of bread to freeze and perhaps a kuchen or two. Loquats started...
Hey - I just found your thread - LAUCE had a meetup at my place on Sunday. I get organic feed at Damoors in Burbank. They have pellet and crumble and it's totally reasonable.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and do join us for a meeting! There are plenty of newbies. We also have...
Hey Mac84!!!

Hey all! The next L.A. Urban Chicken Enthusiasts meeting is at my house in Burbank on April 14th. We'll be discussing coop building and we'll be raffling off a coop!

We recently rescued an abandoned Maltipoo and I am happy to report, she is great with the chickens. She sort of just ignores them.
And I agree with ellandeeranch. Character, fiber, protein.
First off, !
Second, I'm also in the SFV and last year I used misters and frozen soda bottles full of water for them to cuddle up to and they all did beautifully. I have EEs and GCs. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions. Also, you should definitely join the L.A. Urban...
Great article! I'm putting my latest round of compost into one of my "wintering" beds and giving them a nice healthy and happy place to scratch around and finish my compost! (BTW I'm in Southern California, so we don't actually have winter like the rest of y'all).
Hi all. I cannot, for the life of me, find scratch or cracked corn in sizes less than 25 lbs. I could use about 10 lbs or so but I only have a few chickens and they just don't get that many treats.
Anyone know where I can find 10 lb bags of either scratch or cracked corn?
thanks!
I wish. **** Kabob is so dumb, she can't figure out how to get in and out of the coop when all the others are on the other side of the hardware cloth. She just runs around panicking. Of course she's way too wily for me to catch, so it results in me chasing her around forever!!!
All of my girls are the same age - 33 weeks. Both of my GCs have been laying for more than 10 weeks. One of my EEs has been laying for 6 weeks. The other one, who, by the way is not terribly bright, might not start laying until the spring.
