Advice on Mareks and what to do?

I have a 9 week old chick who is showing signs of Mareks. She was hatched with 3 other healthy chicks here on our farm, from eggs from 1 year old hens. Her mother hen is 1 year old. All this from my own hens. No outside hens. These hens free range and do not leave the farm. The closest flock...

    Marecks? Nerve damage?

I have an 8 week old hen who is acting funny. Some background. She was hatched from an egg laid on our farm by one of my hens. She is 1 of 4. I have noticed that she has been holding her feet funny for about a week. And seems to at times act a little dizzy. Like when she is eating, she...

Review by '' on item 'Sussex'

They are so friendly and easy going. They are daily layers. They follow us around like our cats and always want to know what we are doing. They come to the truck when we get home, like a good farm dog.

    Duck with wings spread

Thank you for your response Amiga. Daisy has been fine the last two days. I wonder if the wind was bothering her. I have been keeping an eye on them all. It was so quick and passed. Strange. I did pick her up and gave her a good once over. To answer your questions: She is one of 11 ducks...

    Duck with wings spread

I have a year old Pekin who was just walking along fine one minute and then spread out her wings and put her head to the ground as if to balance herself. She keeps spreading out her wings when she is walking. It is so strange. Any ideas?

    List of egglaying factors

I believe happy chickens lay more eggs. I have 5 hens that are laying now (20 that will be old enough to lay in the next 2 months). I get an average of 4 eggs a day, easily 2 dozen a week. Here is my advice for happy chickens: spend time with them, even holding them sometimes (my girls...

Mixed EE breed. Roo or Hen? (pic heavy)

When I was a new poster I loved the "what am I" cockrel or pullet posts, but was dissapointed when we didn't find out how it turned out. SO here is my update: Skunkback is the head rooster at our place! He is a beautiful Silkie/EE mix. Nakedbutt, Eaglehead and Twin are all roosters...

I would by no way suggest I am an authority, but this is what I have done and it has worked good. We bought 5, 2 day old hens from the local feed store. Then 4 weeks later hatched 6 more. When the original hens were 6 weeks old we put them in the chicken yard, we also free range, and they...
