Got 4 Ancona chicks about a week ago, they seems to do just fine, but are they slow growers/slow developers?? They seem to grow a lot slower than many other breeds I have.
My 7 month old RIR has a ball shaped something 6-7 inches down from her head, in front, throth area/belly. Sorry , hard to describe. Very soft, waterbaloon ish.I can squish it with the hen not really care, everything seems normal. She eats, drink, poo and lay eggs regulary. What can this be? FAT...
How old does my baby chicks have to be to be able to go out and play a little bit?
They are 2 weeks now, and the outside temps are mostly in the high 80's mid 90's here in CA these days.
I have a bunch of young chickens not laying yet, but I have two RIR that are. I keep putting straw/hay in the boxes on top of shavings, nice and cozy I think. Next day the straw/hay is almost gone, pushed out on the floor leaving the nesting boxes pretty empty except the shavings. I refill, next...
Hi there,
I got two RIR very close to same age, 5-6 months old. One started laying eggs about 2 weeks ago, the second one started laying 1 week ago. The first one that started laying, lays much smaller darker eggs, the other one that just started has been laying from the start a much larger egg...
My younger chicks all about 10 weeks old all
cram into one nesting box in the evening and looks like they
stay there all night. Is this normal? I have 2 older birds that are now just
laying so I can't block them off. What should I do, wait and see if they get interested
In the roosting bars?
Got second egg today some time, same color, very light brown/pink'ish..
It looks just a little bigger today. I have another RIR same age , should I leave eggs in there to see if that will get the other to start or does it matter? Thanks.
Got our first egg today from one of two RIR....i think... the egg is kinda small and very light brown, maybe kinda a shade of pink...Is this common from a very young RIR???
I got two RIR from a farm yesterday, he claims they had just started laying, don't know how he knows since he had about a hundred of them. They should be of age, so could the "new" environment slow them down a little? If they are ready to lay, is there any signs?
Thanks...
Blaze, reading your last post I am almost convinced now they are white rock. One especially is the first one to come to me and follows me everywhere. If I squat down for a second, he is on my back and I can barely get him off. You guys are probably right...
