After one's hens have been wormed, their eggs cannot be used for human consumption for at least two weeks. But couldn't one put those eggs under a broody or hatch them in an incubator to no adverse effect? I was just wondering whether anyone had an opinion or words of wisdom about this. It...
I wasn't sure where to post this, but I thought people might be amused and empathetic with this chicken story from New York
City. It's nice to know that people keep chickens in the heart of the city.

This afternoon a banded pigeon appeared on top of my chicken coop. Her band says: NPA 7 09 AP 1509
She flew back and forth and didn't seem to want to leave. I know nothing about pigeons. Right now she is in a pen with food and water. She has obviously been handled a lot - she was easy...
I bought the chicken pictured below at a Swap. I was told it was a blue Marans pullet. Well, it may be blue, but it has developed a crow, so I know it is a cock. But it is developing a rose comb, and I looked up Marans combs and they are single.
Anyone have an idea of what it might be?
In the process of searching out ideas and plans for a new coop, I discovered this site by North Dakota State University Extension Service. It has plans for chicken and turkey coops, barns, feeders, nesting boxes, brooders, etc. I think you will find it very useful if you are planning a new...
I just finished candling my eggs and everything looks pretty good. I have in this incubator (due on 7/9) Ameracaunas, White Leghorns, and Marans. And I noticed when candling that the airsacks of the Ameracaunas are pretty large and oddly shaped - not a nice ellipse at the top of the egg, but...
I want to put a cock in with my girls and incubate their eggs. Does anone know how long the cock must be in with them before I can be pretty much guaranteed that their eggs would be fertile? I have scoured FAQ's but didn't find an answer to this particular question.
Thanks!
