Hey all. We're still on BYC, but current projects keep us from posting as much as we would like.
Just so everyone knows, we are a small Arizona farm who loves our livestock. We have been selling hatching eggs for about 9 years now and we try to do the best we can to keep our chickens and...

I think that is what it was. I lost all of the chicks but one who is still doing awesome. (She was older and had 'bites' on her too) To this day, none of my other chickens have shown any signs of anything wrong, including some new breeds we added a couple of months ago (close to 100...
Hi all. I will post pics ASAP, but I have a strange bird in my coop. It hatched about 8-9 months ago and looks strange. (Kinda roo-ish and kinda hen-ish) I always thought that it would be a roo because it had long legs, but now I am not so sure. It is huge compared to some of my other birds, as...
We are working on some new lemon-blue for the 2011 hatching year. We have a lemon-blue roo that is outstanding looking. I will post pics ASAP. We love working with the genetics and are hoping to come up with some chickens this year that will be show stoppers! Keep an eye out for some pics soon...

Do you have any midget white turks for sale at the present time? We're located in Tucson and are looking for a couple of toms and a several hens.
Back to the top. I am not 100% sure it is pox, but still checking. Does anyone else have any ideas??? Please?
EDIT:
I just did a head count and I have close (ranging in age from 1 month old chicks to 3 and 4 year old adults) to 100 chickens. I have examined them thoroughly and none (Other than...
Hi CMV, no I don't notice anything inside the beak or down their throats. They are running and playing...chasing bugs... otherwise they seem happy and healthy.
They were hatched out from eggs from the mature hens and being kept in an outside 8 foot by 4 foot by 2 foot tall fully enclosed pen. They have fresh water and a heat lamp and have been fed standard chick starter as well as greens from the garden. I have been raising chickens for over 6 years...
Hey everyone. I have some month old chicks and they have been happy and healthy up until a few days ago. They seem to be developing "proud" flesh from sores at the base of their beak and their eye swells shut on the one side. I have looked on the internet and not been able to find anything. I...

I guess I should be a little more careful in my word choices. Lemon blue is not a ASP recognized color breed and will NOT breed true in standard cochins. If you take a golden laced standard cochin and breed it to another golden laced standard cochin, you will get golden laced standard...
The only thing I was saying was with lemon-blue, they will not breed true. If you breed a lemon-blue with a lemon-blue, you will not get 100% lemons.
As of yet, they are experimental with cochins. As of yet, you still need to cross two (or more) color breeds to get lemon blue.

From my understanding, to get what people call a "true" lemon-blue you need to cross a brown-red to a blue or a splash.
Any way you slice it, "lemon-blue" is nothing more than a crossing of two colors. You will not get 100% lemon-blue, no matter what you do, at least at this point in...
I'm pretty sure we have gotten pullets that look like spook. It's hard to remember because a couple of months after we took those pics, we had a bobcat raid that completely wiped out all of our lemon-blues from that breeding year. We lost 3 Bluff hens, 2 Bluff roos and a small handful of mixes...

I love Lemon Boy in the second pic!!! He is awesome looking. Spook looks like something we get when we breed our Bluffs. We have been calling them Aztec Golds and they have been semi-popular. Here is a pic of one of our young-ins.
