    bumblefoot not healing well

Good luck. I'm not sure if I'm up for the intensive surgery/injection process again. It's extremely disruptive to me, the bird, and whoever ends up helping me. I might try the fish medicine soak.

    bumblefoot not healing well

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. The link isn't working because it's using the period (".") at the end of the sentence. If you cut the URL (without the period), then paste it into your browser it should work. Let me know.

    bumblefoot not healing well

Here's the thread about the special medicine I talked about in my previous response. It's not the sugar/iodone mixture. It's a medicine for fish that apparently works on the bumblefoot spaph infection. Check out...

    bumblefoot not healing well

My rooster has had bumblefoot for a long time. Last summer I did the whole operation thing, soaking, squeezing out the puss, penicillan injections, etc. It got a bit better from that but it never completely went away. The last month or so, the foot has gotten swollen up and I've noticed the...

I need advice on dealing with a big fat murderous raccoon!

Thanks for giving me a few more ideas but, seriously, I've decided not to go with the radiator fluid. BTW, squirrel poison that you buy in the store that is labeled for that use, isn't that just as bad as some of these other "home remedies"? I mean, if another animal eats the squirrel after...

I need advice on dealing with a big fat murderous raccoon!

My property is totally fenced, so the neighbors cats and dogs can't get in. My coop is totally fenced on all sides, including the top, so the chickens can't get out. My only other pet besides the chickens is my cat and she lives inside. There are no other critters to kill except the birds and...

I need advice on dealing with a big fat murderous raccoon!

We don't have coons around here but we've got millions of grounds squirrels. And though they don't kill the chickens, they do eat their food.....plenty! Plus, last year, they ate every single peach off my peach tree before they ripe, then proceeded to take a big bite out of every not-yet-ripe...

I have 16, including the two chicks that hatched in the past two weeks.

    Spur Trimming - The Verdict

Hi Urbanfarmboi. I trimmed my rooster's spurs not because he was aggressive, but because the spurs gashed two of my girls when he mounted them. They were pretty nasty gashes and I didn't want that to happen again. He didn't do it intentionally, of course. The spurs were just too long and...

    Spur Trimming - The Verdict

I stand behind the Dremel method 100% and would NEVER do the twisting method again.

    Spur Trimming - The Verdict

When you twist 'em off, a baby bloody spur remains and there is a fair amount of blood. Chickens are very stoic and don't particularly show when they are in pain. With the dremel method, it cauterizes the spur as it cuts so there is no blood. It's a slower process, similar to filing a nail...

Well good for you. Whatever works.

    Spur Trimming - The Verdict

Okay, so I've tried two methods of trimming the spurs......twisting them off with a pair of pliers and cutting them off with a rotary tool. In my now-experienced opinion, cutting them off with a rotary tool is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch less stressful on both me and the bird! Twisting them off...

    Overheated Chicken

I'm also sorry no one replied. What's up with that? I don't come on here much but I needed some info re spur trimming and happened to see your post. I can tell you that I live in the high desert here in California and lately it's been getting up to 100F in the shade, 20 degrees hotter in the...

    Eprinex Pour-on

Hi y'all. Does anyone have any experience using Eprinex Pour-on on dogs and cats for killing fleas, worming, etc?

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

I used it recently on a chick who was infested with lice and within an hour I literally saw the lice dying and dropping off the bird. (BTW, I don't necessarily recommend it for chicks......but I had to do something and I only used a couple of drops.)

    Drooping head

I don't know what's wrong with your chick but with the behavior you describe, I doubt she is eating and drinking. Do you have a feed store anywhere near you? If so, pick up some vitamins and electrolytes for birds, mix with water per the package directions and feed it to the peep drop by drop...

8d chick We lost buzzy Thank you for your help

Because of the struggle to breathe, it could be a respiratory illness. Some people say don't use antibiotics unless you know it's necessary but the choice is ultimately yours. You can get terramycin antibiotic (sp?) at the feed store and you add it to their water. It's not very expensive and...

11 Day old chick not growing and weak

I highly recommend poly-visol infant vitamins too. My little chick couldn't stand up or eat or drink on her own and I fed her water mixed with poly-visol and dried milk with an eyedropper and she recovered enough to be able to eat and drink on her own within a week. Good luck!
