Cool thanks everybody! :D Although, shortgrass, the hen next to her is an Appenzeller Spitzhauben! According to Wikipedia, they are rare in the USA and not actually recognised as an official breed?? :(

Any ideas on the breed of this hen?

I picked her up 2 days ago and she's around 5 months old at the moment. She is primarily white, with a few large-ish black markings on her back. Her comb is very small and pale and she has blue earlobes! No feathers at all on her legs, which are grey coloured. Thank you! :cd

Problem with New Coop and New Chickens

Yikes, a racoon?? We don't really get anything like that where I live. We had trouble from a fox a while back, but haven't seen it for years. Now I understand your concern for wanting them to be locked in safely at night though!!! I guess you'll have to wait for it to get cooler and/or look...

Review by '' on item 'Polish'

I would never have chosen to get a Polish because I think the crest is just ridiculous, but I rescued one that had no home. Her name is Quaffle and she is Golden Laced. As I said in the pros, she is sooooooo adorable and sweet and cute! However she is 90% blind because of her crest, and I can't...

    paralyzed chicken

I agree with the other response and would just like to add that it is very contagious so you definitely need to isolate her and treat this as soon as possible!!! :fl

Problem with New Coop and New Chickens

They will probably figure it out and get used to the new arrangements on their own, but if they don't after a few days then it wouldn't hurt to put them in physically to help them get used to it!! However it's really not vital for them to sleep there, especially since you said it's really hot...

A complete beginner with three lovely ex-batts!

Hello!! I'm really glad you decided to get chickens! And I'm especially glad you decided to rescue battery hens, rather than just buying fancy breeds! I have a mixture of battery hens and hens from breeders, and I always find that battery hens (once you get to know them) are the sweetest and...
