I had a mixed flock of 12 Guineas. They are free ranged during the day and return to their barn stall at night. There are at least 3 hens that have gone broody and so there is a lot of aggression right now. Tonight I found 2 dead birds, 1 out in the barnyard, the other in their stall. The one...
Hi Everybody,
I got 10 African geese hatched April 16th. Some of the ganders are getting a little aggressive with each other. (seems to always star in the pool) They are only 3 months old but they look full grown, big surprise to me how fast quickly they grow! Could they possibly be jostling...
I noticed that no one mentioned that there are 2 kinds of African geese, brown & gray. Both look simuliar in coloration and both have the head knob but the bodies and necks are different. The browns (more commen) have the due lap, a shorter thicker body and neck. The grays are taller and slender...
Thank-you so much Kris!!
I have seen something like that before and actually forgot about it till I checked out the link! Awesome idea! I also had not figured in the mice. The barn has been totally empty for at least 3 years so no mice right now, but we have lots of field mice everywhere so I...
We have recently moved into a new home with a barn. The barn has power but no fixtures are connected yet. (I will be installing plugs & lights later this week) As you can see in the photo, the power wire comes into the barn in the lower corner. I am building a box around that part so that the...
Thank- you everyone! You guys are the best!! With your help my Little Red Barn will be a grand success!
I have decided to use the metal frames, I can have them ready in about a day so I have lots of time to get that project done. (the frames are actually my office shelves so I will wait...
Hi Celtic, so good to see you here!
After following the other thread I realized the crate would never work. I have several metal frames I can use to make a 3'x 3' x 2' box. It looks like that should work. I will post photos later today.
How long do they need to be in the house?
Welcome Lark and thank-you for the info!
I just ordered a Corrugated Cardboard Chick Corral for the barn so I have that covered.
For the brooder I had several good ideas today. I will work on them tomorrow to see which one works out. I will post pics and info when I'm done.
Can't wait...
Welcome to My Little Red Barn! Located in Raymond, Washington!
I am finally back on the farm and ready to get started growing "critters"
I will be starting with 10 African Grey goslings that I ordered from a hatchery in Missouri due to be delivered on May 16th. (I sure hope the PO gets a...
Roo : Please don't get discouraged! Your toms are young, this is their first breeding year, think of them as 15/16 yr old boys! They are all full of them selves right now but YOU are their leader and you must prove that YOU are the Boss! Once you do this you shouldn't have any more trouble.
I...
Good morning everyone,
As you can see I am new to BYC. I found this forum while searching for goose info and have been lurking. After following this thread from the beginning I am now hooked! I didn't think I would be interested in incubating eggs, thought it would be complicated & to much...
I saw a young one doing this one day, as soon as he started Mom went into a full display as well. She went as far as thrumming and even did a few week gobbles!! Blew everything I ever thought I know about turkeys completely out of the water!! It was like she was trying to teach her young tom...
In my experience, a typical turkey flock is 2 toms usually brothers with one being the flock boss (alpha) and a bunch of hens, about 5 or 6 or more. If there are only a few hens usually there is only 1 tom. If there were more than 2 tomes they would fight it out & eventually split into smaller...
