We had a hen die suddenly and now we have one. Our hen is 1 year and 2 weeks. I just read in Storey's Chicken Guide that Foster Mama's is possible. They mentioned 4 immediate signs that our hen would take 2 new chicks as her own. Has anyone had success? We plan to introduce at night and...
Morning, our chicken, Savannah, appeared healthy and happy last night during her usual chicken run. Next, she squatted like she was going to lay an egg and then fell over. We placed her in her hen house and she laid there for about 3 minutes with eyes clsed. suddenly, seizure like thrashing...
It seems that around 17 or 18 weeks some hens begin to lay eggs and this is so exciting! How soon to begin giving Layer Feed and Oyster Shells? Ours are only 13 weeks, but that is just around the corner. Thanks, Sarah

Our Barred Rock is doing this too. But, everyone thinks it is a roo. We will have to wait and see if she lays eggs or is a roo. I hope it is the dominant hen playing tough!
Okay! We will take the proactive approach. I will go and visit the neighbors and bring some beer/wine/fresh produce from our garden. I will let you all know ASAP. I love this forum and thank all of you for the support.
