It is with extreme disappointment, sadness, anger and frustration that I have to share the news that my Zoning Text Amendment was returned to me today.... Attached is the reason(s) why.... I called the Planning Commission prior to my submission to ensure I was addressing what needed to happen...
I'm gearing up for another round hoping for a chicken ordinance in Midland.... I've talked to the Planning Commission...they say I can bring the same amendment request that was voted down 3 1/2 years ago, but I have to show that I have support, and lots of it - I'll take any and all help I can...

RTF protection was my only hope...my city has told me no more times than I can count, and has said they have no intention of re-voting on an ordinance change to allow chickens in residential areas....this fight just keeps getting bigger and bigger and every time I see a sliver of hope and light...
So....If I establish my farm today...and am no longer a 'new and expanding livestock facility'....if tomorrow's vote doesn't go our way, will those GAAMPS still apply?!
Traci,
Just and FYI, since I'm in Midland, I have had others from Larkin contact me after they were cited for chickens...I don't know how helpful if would be to be preemptive - but there are several people in the area they can help you fight it if you are cited later....
From USA TODAY:
Obama to sign farm bill in Michigan
WASHINGTON President Barack Obama heads to Lansing, Mich., on Friday to sign a landmark piece of agricultural legislation, but don't be surprised if talk surrounding the event centers on more controversial subjects.

I just did an interview with our local paper about my efforts to get the ordinance change back in front of the City Council in Midland again! Gaining momentum!

I find it interesting that basically they are saying that since there are not GAAMPS that apply (due to size of lot and/or number of animals), township ordinances rule....

THANK YOU, RaZ - that is great stuff - I'll modify and adapt - I've gathered quite a group of quiet followers here that I know will help me launch a similar effort!
My thoughts completely and exactly - of course my position hasn't changed, Mr. Planning Director - the law is on MY side....why would MY position change.
And I'm also not in the position to fight in court either :( I wish I had the time, energy and financial resources to do so....I just don't -...
well...i got my response from the city again today - i have some four-letter words for them.
"Dear Mrs. Baker,
Thank you for your letter of May 28, 2012 (yes, their typo), addressed to Mayor Maureen Donker, City Attorney James Branson, and myself as Director of Planning and Community...
Sal,
We have a mutual friend, Johanna Paas, that just contacted me this week about trying to talk with you! I am still actively working on this issue - if you go to the page 59 or so of the MRTFA thread, and the last one, you will see what i've done so far...my 2nd letter to the city will...
